Yeah, Parks was the worst of our setting options, except for all the others.

Did Hambly give any update on Parks?
And look we play Cal again in 2 days. Could be another loss. We do play better at home so who knows. Yes injuries have hurt but something off with volleyball team all season long. Not much fight or on court leadership especially in tough moments. Just look at the number of times we've been swept this season.
Looking at stats, not near enough attempts for Blyashov.

Agree but the bigger issue for me is the lack of middle attacking. 10 total kills is way too low - as I have commented before, 5/set seems to be the floor for this team to have a decent attack. Feeding the middle remains the one thing Parks does better than the average setter.

I will say this team looks a lot more joyful playing when Wagner is setting. She always looks so happy pumping up her teammates and plays with a contagious energy.

25-17 over Cal in set 1. Looking good! Wagner is doing well setting. Generally everyone looks energized.

Assuming that to be true, Whoever checked her out risked her health and made the coach look bad for putting her back into the match.

Except that she passed the protocol test administered at the time.

How did Wagner wind up with 11 hits? I mean, you will take 5 kills and a .455 hitting percentage, but that’s mostly a reflection of a team that was unprepared (unless they were a bunch of overpasses). Better teams will be better prepared.
Nice to see Harvey and Kurt, both of whom have struggled a lot this year, with hitting percentages in the mid .300’s. Also goof to see 20 kills in 30 attempts from our middles.

Pretty sure Logan Tom is long since out of eligibility, but boy could we use her.

There were some bad passes to Wagner that she did turn into "attacks", trying to make something out of them.
OTOH she did make a couple of beautiful dumps that were nicely disguised and caught Cal by surprise.
I'd like to seeing passing stats for last night; to my eye it was pretty good, though there are always a few clunkers.
It was great to see both Kurt and Harvey making kills, and both middles also very productive.

Agree with this. Wagner is pretty effective with the dump on 2, much more so than Parks. A few of those attempts were because of bad passes. IMO, a setter that is an offensive threat only makes an offense even tougher to stop.

I agree with this, but I would argue that Miner, who was exceptional at knowing when to dump over on two (she probably had a career hitting percentage near .500), rarely had more than 5 attempts a match.
A setter, even a tall, athletic one like Miner, is rarely the best hitting option, and a team that has scouted it out well will be ready with a block.
The point of having a setter who is a threat to go on two is less to actually win some cheap points (though you’ll take them), but to slow the middle a beat to make it easier for the outside to hit. Since there are otherwise only two front row hitters, it’s easy for the middle to shade a bit unless the setter is a threat. But it doesn’t take many hits on two to force the blockers to adjust.

BC, did you watch this match or are you just criticizing the number of setter attack attempts based on stats? I saw few if any that looked like a mistake in real time -- not that I'm any kind of expert. Some were trying to make something out of a bad pass, others caught the defense napping, and many were successful.
Hopefully and presumably Wagner would do fewer if the defense showed they were prepared or if there were fewer passes so tight to the net that they were very difficult to set.
