Recruit watch:
Jesuit of Portland has apparently decided on their offensive strategy for the rest of the season. Give the ball to Joey Alfieri early and often. Joey carried 34 times for 343 yards and 6 (count them, six) TD's as Jesuit blew away previously undefeated Sunset 62-20.
Christian McCaffery had another big day offensively also, getting 264 yards rushing and receiving and 4TD's in a 40-0 victory.
Keller Chryst's Palo Alto team continues to struggle, losing 20-17 to a team that had yet to win a game this year (Palma). Keller did throw for one TD and run for another.

I am hearing from a friend that Jordan Perez is having an absolute monster year. Perez school Carlsbad plays Alijah Holder's team Oceanside in 2 weeks.

Thinking about the how the 2014 class finishes up:
Counting on: G. Dickerson (TE/OLB)
          D. Schultz (TE)
Excellent shot at: S. Thomas (DE)
             C. Tucker (OT)
Still in decent shape for: T. Lee (WR)
                  K. Holuba (DE/LB)
                  T. Alexander (CB)
                  A. Mike (OT) (assuming we might offer him at some point)
I also recall that reading that shortly after Alijah Holder committed to Stanford, his twin brother Mikah Holder (WR), re-arranged his senior year course schedule to add a couple,of AP courses, so I assume he and Stanford may be considering each other should the academics work out. And, as mentioned in an earlier post, Alan Lazzard (WR) is apparently scheduling a visit, so perhaps there is an outside shot at flipping him from Iowa State, though I believe he has a family connection there.
Does this sound about right to everyone? Did I miss anyone, or over- or under-estimate our chances with any of the players mentioned above?

I put Tucker where I did based on the fact that he once had us in his top 5, and after making that statement, he announced that he would not graduate early, per his earlier plan, and would,graduate on time with his class. I believe we were the only team in his top group that would not accept early admits.
I actually agree that Thomas seems really interested (thus, the "excellent shot" category) and seems like a "Stanford guy" from what I've read. But he's playing his cards so close to the vest...I have not heard or read a peep from Holuba. Have I missed something with him? Entirely likely.
Holder is pure speculation, based on family ties and not being clear why a guy headed to SDSU would be adding AP classes just days after bro verbals. But who knows.Â

I don't think we have room for Holuba. Mike does not appear to be interesting to our coaches; we're recruiting Burkett instead. Kendall Randolph, a corner from Tallahassee, is also being recruited by us.

Stanford already has Simmons, Holder, Murphy, Franklin, and Tucker committed in the class. Randolph or Alexander would make six DBs in the class. Though good DBs are of course important, it seems doubtful any program would allocate that many scholarships to DBs in one class.
But then there is also the possibility that Stanford drops one or more or some of these commits won't get past admissions. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

DBs are in high demand due to all the spread offenses. But they are also the quintessential "athletes," and thus prime candidates for conversion to WR or RB if necessary. It won't surprise me if we get, and keep, them all

our prior recruiting put us in this spot. we signed 0 DBs last year and 2 DBs in the prior class. we have 10 scholarship DBs (11 if you include Taijuan) and 5 may leave after this season.

What's up with Arizona. Looks like they are way out in the lead in the Pac-12. They have 24 commits, including 6 four star and 12 three star recruits. What are they doing to get such success?

What comes to mind is 1) quality over quantity (not all three stars are the same) and 2) some prospects want to make sure they move beyond the admissions hurdle before commiting. Don't let the 24 commit number fool you. We are pretty much ranked evenly with the Mildcats with fewer recruits and without having some 4-5* prospects on board yet.
We lead Arizona on 247 and Rivals. One more recruit and we will lead them on ESPN and Scout. They are full and we still have room for about 6 more.

I'm guessing the recruits that Stanford is chasing after are the kind of recruits who have options and will wait to make a decision.

As the Prince mentioned, Az must be just about tapped out for this year with 24 commits, while we still are in the driver's seat for two 4 stars at least (Dickerson and Schultz), and in strong position for a couple,of 4-5 stars (Solamon Thomas and Casey Tucker). If those guys come through, we would STILL be at only 20 commits (assuming everyone makes it through admissions and remains committed. I'm guessing that with the small size of last year's class, we must have somewhere between 20-25 spots available this year, so that still,leaves a few spots for possible flips,from,other programs (OG Jesse Burkett?), or uncommitted players like Tavon Lee. I'm guessing we finish strong and end up with a class in the top 10-15.
But the key, of course, is not just lining up the highly evaluated players, but getting the guys who really fit your program. Te coaching staff has done a remarkable job of that the last few years.Â

Outside of Stanford and Oregon, I believe Arizona has the best chance to win a Pac-12 title within the next four years or so.
I believe RichRod is a really good coach, and I'd take him over Mora (who is going to get some more offers this off-season and might be tempted to leave; not really sure what UCLA can afford). Everyone else in the south has some pretty obvious question marks, while I don't see anyone in the North being able to beat Stanford and Oregon.
