Just turned on the UCLA vs Princeton game  (on Pac12 Network today at 11:30 am) -- I agree that Betts looks better than she did at Stanford, but also noted that on her first basket, she shuffled her feet as she shot, clear travel, but not called. She's getting away with things. Wonder if that continues.

That's awesome!!

Not the real Lexie Hull, of course. But a migjty nice video.

Betts goes 9-9 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line for 22 points in a close UCLA win over Princeton

Great article about Kiki in this morning's SF Chron

We are up to # 4

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Hoops9092 - 11-20-2023

Very possible that UCLA loses to UConn this week and Colorado to NC State, and we move on up to #2!

We have a pretty light remaining non-conference schedule with potentially a game against #13 Florida State this week and then up to Spokane at unranked Gonzaga, which has proven to always be tough. Gonzaga lost to #24 Washington State by 5 last week and plays Louisville on Sunday, will be interesting to see how they stack up.

I don't think it's safe to underestimate either the potential game with Florida State or the one with Gonzaga. Both could be serious tests, and both are on the road. I don't see these as "light" games at all.

Agreed.  And remember that we changed our offense this year and teams are getting more and more film on us.  We can expect teams to be better prepared defensively against us the deeper we go into the season.  Duke was much better prepared than Indiana, for example, and everyone in the future can see what Duke did against us in the second half.  Not everyone will have the players to execute that defense, but some will, and everyone will benefit from the film to some degree.  Florida State and Gonzaga will surly be trying to figure out if they can capture some of the Duke defense in their scouting report defenses.

New article in 11/22 SF Chronicle, looking forward about strengths and possible questions re the team -- titled "Takeaways from Stanford's Opening Slate. . ." In the print edition, a different title, and emphasis: Titled "Preseason doubts are being eased as help for Brink begins to emerge."

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Lorcan - 11-22-2023

Azzi Fudd is out for the season for UConn after suffering an ACL and meniscus tear. Such an unfortunate journey for her with all the knee injuries and just never being able to be healthy.

torn ACL per ESPN.
Poor kid, so unfortunate

Ow.  Prayers for Azzi.

I'm so sorry for Azzi - what a shame...

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 11-22-2023

Injuries are the curse of WBB.  My impression is that they are far more prevalent than with MBB, and occasionally I see something from a surgeon or physiologist that explains why.   It is one of the few ways in which I don't prefer WBB to certain other sports.

So sad for Azzi Fudd.  And for her fans.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Baez87 - 11-22-2023

I can only imagine a young lady committed to learn and become proficient at the game of basketball in her very early years, only to suffer from a spate of injuries that will probably end her dream.
The ACL injury must be devastating to Azzi Fudd and her parents! From what I could see through the distance of media, she comes from a supporting family that will help her dream new dreams after mourning her fate. This kind of event will test her inner character and she will probably undergo an enormous challenge in the coming months.
It’s an integral part of the game we fans often repress. Yet every player must know that an unfortunate event on the court could end their basketball career. And watching a young player cope with an existential crisis — whether it be physical or emotional — should be a reminder to all of us that, when we spin unrealistic expectations of our players, we could be ignoring their humanity.
Each young lady is doing her best and deserves to be respected as a human being making her way through the challenges of life.

I watched USC play Penn State on FloHoops. I'm impressed with USC. They are going to be a challenge. They are going to be in the mix for top three in the conference along with UCLA, Utah, Colorado and ourselves. Other than Brink, if I could pick one player in the conference to build a team around it would Juju Watkins. She's a pheom already and just seems to elevate and give confidence to everyone around her. I'm glad we only have USC/UCLA once and at home.

We have to sweep that weekend! I don't want to see Lindsay (again) bopping up and down celebrating on our floor as if she'd won a national championship!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

We are so blessed as fans of Stanford. For other teams, beating Stanford is their achievement of the season just as winning a NC is for Stanford.

I am reminded of Camelot’s “What do the Simple Folk Do?”
