Villar was HBP (on the forearm) on May 31. He was out a week and is 2-11 since he returned to action.
Why put him on the 40 man before you have to? The only time that really matters is after the season when you are trying to protect guys from Rule 5. Once he is ready to move up to SF, he will be put on the 40 man (and goodbye Vosler?).

Of course the Giants old men continue to stumble onto the IL list as Junis actually fell off the mound and Longoria disappeared down the dugout tunnel. Plus Wade had a setback during a baserunning drill.
Pretty soon we may see Austin Dean and David Villar up if only because six or seven players have been admitted to Assisted Living homes.

I’d only put him on 40 if he’s ready to come up. So, that’s my question. Is he ready? Don’t know.

Another BTW...second straight win over the Dodgers. Giants didn't get many hits against Kershaw, but for a second straight game, former Dodger Joc Pederson played an integral role, scoring the winning run on a wild pitch. Pederson is #14 in MLB in home runs with 13. Slater went 0 for 2 and was lifted for Yaz. Luis Gonzalez is batting .312, which would be 11th if he'd had enough ABs to qualify.
Giants have scored the third most runs in MLB. That's the good news. But they're 20th in doubles, 21st in triples, 12th in HRs and 6th in walks. In other words, I don't think the scoring is sustainable. On the pitching / defense side, they've given up the 13th most runs, a combination of poor pitching and fielding that is not standing them in good stead. And they have the 18th best WHIP, which makes me think that worse scores are ahead.

How about their second year stats? Judge hit 284/422/627 with 52 home runs. It's not unusual for even the best players to struggle their first time up in the majors. Mike Trout hit 220/281/390 his first time up, then 326/399/564 the next year. It's not Bart's first year stats that are worrisome, it's his lack of progress after a full year in AAA and second try at the majors, at age 25 no less.

Giants... I never gave up two homers in a game and I bet I started 95% of the games I pitched.
However I made my mark by allowing some rockets:
- Frank Duffy (Stanford) 1967, CWS year. No short fence in Sunken, Just a berm and a wooden wall about 375' in LCF. Duffy hit one that was still going when it crossed the San Benito County line.
- Pete Napote (San Diego Marines made up of college stars playing ball instead of using frags in Vietnam). Hit one to the back of the parking lot waaaay beyond LF at our park on Lake Merced. Probably 550' but maybe 600. Still won on a complete game three hitter 2-1.

Reminds me of Hershiser around June last year when Giants beat Dodgers and were in first. He said “ Well, they should enjoy it while they can cause it won’t last long.” Wrong, Orel.
