RE: Stanford Baseball - BostonCard - 06-04-2022

One team from each of the 16 regionals makes it to the 8 super regionals.  One team advances from each of the super regionals to the CWS.

If you click on any of the regionals on the ncaa bracket page, you can get a good idea of how a double-elimination format works.  Here's ours:

Texas State's likely starting pitcher today is Levi Wells. Stanford has seen him before. Last year he was on Texas Tech. In game one of the super regional he came out of the bull pen. He came in in the seventh inning with  no outs and the bases loaded. Gave up double (Huff), single (Robinson), single (Brueser), double play (Bowser), strike out (Troy). Five runs in, two charged to Wells.

Wells has played a ton more this year than last, presumably why he transferred. Nevertheless, I hope he has some bad flashbacks this evening.

Pancer has been pretty good lately. Unlike much of our bullpen, Pancer doesn't walk many but occasionally gets hit pretty hard. He's given up the most HRs but fewest walks (per inning pitched) on the staff. I guess that matches this outing - no walks, one HR in three innings.

I think he should have been given the win yesterday. If the starter doesn't make it through five innings, the win is supposed to go to the reliever that "contributes most to the win". However, in practice it's pretty common to give the win to the first reliever. In this case it was O'Rourke who did not have a good outing - 1 inning pitched, 2 hits, 2 hit batters, 2 earned runs, and 1 inherited runner scored.

A question.  What do the baserunner(s) and infield talk about between plays?

The bat flip was pretty good too.
And many guys have dyed hair this year (kind of like the mustache last year?).

And here's the 10-run inning, including the bat flip about 20 seconds into the clip.

I always wondered that myself. Are they talking trash? Family? Catching up on their shows? What to get as a wedding gift?

Stanford vs Texas State is on ESPNU tonight at 7.

"Okay, well, uh... candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two! Go get 'em."

Unfortunately it's 4-1, Williams struggling.

RE: Stanford Baseball - cardfan77 - 06-04-2022

And to add injury to insult, Carter Graham is hurt.

RE: Stanford Baseball - chrisk - 06-04-2022

Williams is just about done in the 5th. Over 100 pitches.

6 of the home (seeded) teams have already lost today and a couple more are losing.

If Stanford does not rally to win, they will be in good company tomorrow.

Williams ends up throwing 117 pitches in 4 2/3 innings.

RE: Stanford Baseball - Madera86 - 06-04-2022

We've outhit them, 7-5. Just need to bring our guys in with the long ball. Which we are more than capable of doing, even with Carter out. And cut down on the free bases.

Hey, did you hear me out there? I said cut down on the free bases.

RE: Stanford Baseball - rogpodge - 06-04-2022

So, do we talk about Bruno?

RE: Stanford Baseball - PVTree - 06-04-2022

Our bats are cold tonite. They have gotten timely hitting... Extra base hits all night.

RE: Stanford Baseball - chrisk - 06-04-2022

Saving the bullpen now.

At least they won’t see Levi Wells again.
