Not to rub salt in any open wounds, but watching Azzi Fudd play in this game really makes me sorry she didn't land at Stanford. She plays with such maturity under pressure—especially for a freshman—and I can only imagine how much more dangerous she'll get in the coming years. Hard not to think about what she would have added to our roster, particularly given the talented guards we have graduating this year.

Agree. I admire Bueckers a lot too, but never felt like she'd be a good fit for Stanford and Tara. But Fudd would fit in just great, and we definitely could have used her over the next few years...

All things considered, I think I’d rather play UConn. NC State has so many weapons, even if Cunane looks mediocre

As the game goes into overtime, I feel good about Stanford playing either of these teams.

Assuming Fudd wanted to come assuming she could have come. She is very good for sure

Now going to second overtime.

After double overtime I'm more impressed with both teams. Bueckers took over for UConn but NC State was right there, losing only by 4 in the end.

Too bad. Would have preferred to face NC State, because UConn has too many clutch players when it counts (see tonight). Friday is going to be quite the challenge. But they definitely earned it!

I think actually Lacie gets Paige. Paige really likes to elevate on her jumpers (ala Rori on Texas), so could use a taller defender. Anna is great at denying perimeter players so will do well on Azzi

RE: General WBB 21-22 Season - BosCard - 03-28-2022

UConn shoots so many mid range jumpers.  I think we will see quite a bit of Hull, Hull, Jones, Belibi, Brink.   That’s a lot more length to shoot over vs some of NC States tiny guards.

Oregon now has 3 in portal: Scherr, Parrish and Watson. Hope they find better situations in which to excel next year.

Yeah, I see 1 of the Hulls on Paige; and maybe Wilson on Williams

Of that elite recruiting class which was tops or one of the top in the country, all have now transferred out except PaoPao.

Plus Sabally going pro.

I'm glad we are playing UCONN.  They are a blue blood powerhouse program that has IIRC made it to 17 straight final fours.  I think our team can beat them.  However, we need to build a good lead on them to finish the game.  Paige B can turn it on and take over a game, hitting every shot she puts up.  If it's close at the end, she could end our season.

this was an unexpected and severe injury.  She was back on the bench with her wrist wrapped and in a sling at the end of the game, but her season  is over.  Very sad.

In 2H, Paige drained like 4 shots in a row . . . then stopped shooting (or so it seemed).
The in OTs she just started draining everything.
I'm sure coaches will scout as well as humanly possible - from tonight's watch, I'd try and force her left and be ever alert for the drive right and pull up.

The good news is that UConn is not a pressing team.  We should at least be able to get into our half-court O without too much trouble.  We can bank on Bueckers and Fudd being good (hopefully both not great).  It's Westbrook who may prove to be the wild card for UConn.  She can be outstanding or mediocre (taking and missing shots).

P.P.S.  When UConn was up 2 late in 2OT, their player took  contested shot at the rim with plenty of time on the shot/game clock.  Thought UConn avoided a possible bad mistake there.  But otoh, you like players with the confidence to shoot it in crunch time.  Again, helluva game.

Oregon lost Taylor Chavez (Arizona), Jaz Shelley (Nebraska), Taylor Mikesell (Ohio State) to transfer last year.  Now Scherr, Parrish and Watson are transferring.  Why can't Oregon hang onto it's talent?

RE: General WBB 21-22 Season - Jskass - 03-28-2022

one can only speculate that there are coaching issues given the change in attitude that has transpired (Graves) and loss of his top lieutenants. Some say that Mark Campbell (now Head Coach, Sac State) was the real deal at OR. And he took Xavier Lopez with him.
