Isn't Scarlett eligible to apply for a 6th year due to suffering two season ending injuries? I don't have any clue whether he ends to stick around that long, but if he did, that would be great.

I agree with Garvin re: this not being a transfer.
And fundamentally, what is the policy behind any restriction on a kid who flipping graduates from the college that gave him a scholie? Seriously. There has to be some policy animating the rule, but for the life of me, I'm can't figure out what it is.

The NCAA set the rules. It's one of the things that players believe makes them indentured servants of the schools.

HAHA what a bunch of f*cking losers! Great to see King Loser Cal88 mixing it up in there.
What would the response be if, say, Aziz Shittu transferred to Cal? Confusion maybe. I'd root against him in the Big Game. I don't think I'd compare him to Benedict Arnold.
That school seriously needs to lay off the haterade.

Perhaps you would keep calm, but consider the reaction of many of our fans to Mike Montgomery going "to the dark side." Heck, your reference to Benedict Arnold is apt as many Stanford fans (and if I recall correctly, the CBoard SW) referred to MM as Benedict Monty. And he was an employee with no alumni connection to the school.
Personally, if a player at a position of need for us left to play for C'al, barring a compelling personal reason, I'd be pretty perturbed.

I have no problem with razzing and fulmination, but I wouldn't want to block him. There's a point at which "sports fun" crosses over to "genuine a-hole," and blocking someone's life opportunities is sprinting past that. (Or, for another example, the 59er who brags about having a
police record as a badge of his anti-Stanford bona fides. Dave Chappelle couldn't do a better "when keeping it real goes wrong" if he tried for a million years.)
Re: B Scarlett watch -

I'd feel much the same as I feel about Montgomery. I realize in his case that there was no job at Stanford and that he has no strong allegiance to Stanford the way an alum. I also realize that unlike Willingham, he said only good things about Stanford when he left. I also realize that John Ralston did the same thing in reverse. It's not rational, but it still bothers me.
Montgomery expected the boos, and I expect that B Scarlett does too. I expect that he'll still be loyal to his friends and will probably cheer for them when they're not playing Stanford.
(Based on the kal coach's comments I suspect that the two didn't get along.)

Really, I'm surprised, Yvonne.
Monty going to Cal bothered me minimally, for the reasons you said (he left coaching Stanford in good standing for an NBA job, he was not a coach at Stanford when he left to Cal), and he did great things here, and was only so-so at Cal (though certainly better than the guy we got). Tyrone Willingham's departure bothered me more, because he was a coach (under contract, at least in theory) and left for a lateral move. But his lack of success and involuntary departure softened the blow. This was a case where everyone would have been better had he stayed, though you never know; without Buddy and Wlat we never would have gotten Harbaugh and Shaw.

I've never felt much about Cal, ill or otherwise, or known much about Dykes.
Now I do. Dykes's comments about Scarlett and Scarlett's departure seem petty and petulant. I'd be embarrassed if a Stanford coach made similar comments in a similar circumstance.Â

A lot of good those triple resources did with him, given the 10x expectations there. And the double salary carried with it a one third the coaching life expectancy. He would have been coach for a decade at Stanford. At Notre Dame, he got the boot after three years.

No, Scarlett doesn't meet the criteria for a 6th year. Usually a 6th year is available if a player misses two seasons due to injury. Under NCAA rules, Scarlett has used three seasons of eligibility and has missed just one season.
As a freshman, he played in just three games before being injured, but one of those games was in the second half of the season. A medical redshirt is available only if there's a season-ending injury in the first half of the season. So that counts as a season of eligibility for him. He played nine games as a sophomore. He missed his junior year due to injury. As a senior, he played in five game, which is one too many. The limit for a medical redshirt is four games. So that also counts as a season of eligibility. His next season will be his fourth and last.
Of course, he can apply for an exception to the rules. The NCAA has authority to make exceptions. But I wouldn't be very optimistic about it.

Thanks, Terry. Too bad no 6th season, but i'd be happy with a healthy 5th season.

Graduate school is a different admissions animal than undergrad. I'm curious if it may be easier to get into Stanford as a grad student than undergrad in some cases.
Depends on the school, I would imagine. My sister was admitted to one of Stanford's graduate schools with good grades but horrible test scores. Her story, however, was very compelling (tough upbringing, former Army MP, didn't graduate high school, but very strong undergraduate and Master's work at good schools). And she has done some exceptional work with her Stanford PhD.Â
