Watching Stanford is like watching paint not dry. (Paint that dries equates success.) Lotta football left. Maybe Stanford can learn how to block at halftime. 14+ points in a half seems like a tall order for this offense.
Maybe Stanford just isn't that good this year?
Some degree of karma that Notre Dame has a touchdown nullified because of a penalty. Thing is, that play was so blatant there was no way the refs could not have called it.
Our game against ASU still sucks big fat donkey balls, but in the battle of cheaters versus (alleged) criminals, the good news was that at least one of them lost.

The scarier thought is that Stanford doesn't have anyone better than Hogan to trot out there.
There are some real player issues on offense. Whether talent, coaching, or some combination thereof.
Let's see what David Shaw is made of this next 30 minutes. I remain hopeful, if tempered by what I just watched.

Ty, unfortunately, is reverting to his sophomore form the last few games with dropped passes. Plus a fumbled kickoff that cost him a giant hole to run through and a poor decision on the punt return.
Put Crower in at QB and McCaffrey for punt returns. Pass to the TEs over and over until they stop run blitzing. At least we get the ball first.
I'd just as soon kick off to ASU to start the second half. I have more confidence in our defense scoring than our offense!

Husak on the radio just called for a quarterback change. Says Hogan is not seeing the field, is not accurate with his passes, does not see the blitzes coming.

If the change is Crower, we are doomed. The only hope for the present (and the future) is Chryst.

There are plenty of options other than Hogan. Our coaching staff's stubbornness won't allow us to explore said options.

Announcers indicate it's been 7 years since we've been shut out in the first half (vs Wash State, 2007). This SUCKS.

Yes, we have several options if Hogan were to get injured:
Crower, who in mop up duty has been fine, but not much more
Lloyd, who has been converted into a backup safety
Burns, who has yet to show that he can make the adjustment to a passing offense.
Chryst, a true freshman, who everyone seems to like because they haven't seen him play yet.
Maybe there is someone who is better than Hogan, but it is not immediately apparent to me. Maybe Crower would be better under the circumstances.

Luckily the ASU db couldn't hang on to the pass thrown to him in the end zone.

I guess the upshot is we didn't get shut out. That drive was better. In the first half, we had 69 yards. In that drive alone, we had 65.
Still, hard to see us getting two more touchdowns. I'm not sure I liked giving Williamson the kick, who has not exactly been automatic from any distance this year. It would have been fourth and two.

Tebow honestly has better throwing mechanics than Hogan.
Orgeron's comment last year that Stanford's the best school for QB development seems incorrect, as one would think the "best school of QBs" would have removed at least one of the like 7 different hitches in his motion.

I guess the issue with countering this run blitz is that a lot of the options require your quarterback to make quick decisions and be accurate on short and medium passes. Neither of which describes Hogan.
Have we seen a screen pass (or any pass to a RB trying to get outside the pressure)? Like the wheel route that ASU got to set up the second TD?

Good to see Williamson get us on the board. Gets him some confidence.

Defense holds ASU to a 25 yd FG. Gonna need the defense to score some at this rate.

One possession for each team in 3rd and now only 5 mins left in the quarter. Shaw better add some tempo to his offense or they will simply run out of time.

I felt unloyal for expressing a wish to see Chryst put in, but oh well. I love Hogan, but I hope Chryst gets put in. (and before anybody tells me that Shaw won't burn his redshirt, I'll say that I don't need to be bothered with reality)
