Is he thinking now it's about him and his autistic grandson? Are we to feel sorry for them? Just a classless way to deflect criticism? Can't believe he's turning it in to a fundraiser for autism...

Is there any precedent for a request like this? What does this have to do with an athletic director's emotional outburst? Unless he also has autistic spectrum traits causing the outburst?

Amazing arrogance. Just amazing. Say you're sorry, fool, and move on. If I ever get a traffic ticket I guess I should request my fine be given to the charity of my choice. What the F does his grandson have to do with this? How to embarrass yourself and then humiliate yourself. I used to have a lot of respect for that man but never again.

What the F does he mean, "I accept the Pac12 reprimand?" What other choice is there? Take his bsll and go home? That comment alone ought to be worth another 25k, and keep piling on until the arrogant trojan gets it. The only thing that surprises me is that he hasn't, yet, taken to refering to himself in the first person plural, like the Pope and the Queen. Well maybe no surprise since he probably considers himself above both.

Hope Scott rejects it. I doubt it, but it would be the right thing to do.Â

Pac-12 should send the check to the Children's Hospital LA and then ask that Haden write a check made out to the Pac-12 Conference.
By the way, when I first saw that, I wondered (perhaps cynically) if Haden was just doing this to try to draw a tax deduction from "donating the money to charity". I figured if he wrote the check to the Pac-12, and asked that they donate it to charity, though, that he wouldn't be able to get away with that. But if he wrote the check directly to the charity, maybe my cynicism was not misplaced.

Again, what a turd. I remember (SC) people saying that Haden was a good choice to rescue them from the moral depths of Mike Garrett.
I bet the turd deducts it from his taxes.

Guess I wasn't the only one to cynically believe that.

Unbelievable arrogance. Running to the sideline and engaging the ref is merely violating the spirit of a game (not that I'm condoning it). But this public "charity" flaunting of what was meant to be a fine is an affront to general ethics and decency.
As an SC alum, I'm ashamed of his behavior. Not only does this reflect extremely poorly on Haden but also on his bosses at the highest levels of the university for condoning it (or worse).

Yeah, makes me a little more ashamed of my USC med degree. To clarify though, while CHLA is affiliated with USC, they are independent entities.

That was my initial reaction. On reflection, I don't think he can deduct it as a charitable contribution nor does he need to. If the fine is a binding obligation that gets forgiven as a result of the contribution, he would have received benefits equal to the contribution, thus disqualifying the entire contribution. However, I suspect he can write it off as an employee business expense.

Haden is trying to start a new viral trend: the "nut bucket challenge". It's simple. You embarrass yourself on national TV, donate the fine to your favorite charity, and then challenge three of your friends to do the same.

I know this sounds crazy, but maybe Larry Scott should decide where Haden's money is spent? Picking your own punishment is one of the most arrogant acts of hubris one can make, other than an AD running down to the field to argue with game officials, and essentially playing the "do you know who I am" card.
Re: The weird Pat Haden appearance -
GoodGrief - 09-09-2014
I hope Larry Scott tweets that the fine doubles for every day that a proper check made out to the Pac-12 is not received. And then tweets Pat asking what he would like them to do with the one made to Autism. Naturally, Pat at that point would have to tell them to give it to the Autism group (this turns the table on Pat and puts him in the position of possibly denying the donation to the foundation).

This whole topic would be a lot more amusing if we had just scored 14 or more points and won that game. I still have that dull ache in my chest over this loss.
