Voters are flighty, irrational creatures. Anything besides winning is incidental.

Marqise Lee is down, looks like he's in a lot of pain. Sad. I have to say, part of me feels bad for Marqise that rules required him to come back for a third year with Kiffen at the helm and no Barkley to provide offensive balance. He might have done beter sitting out the year and training on his own.

AND BARRY J WITH A TOUCHDOWN!!!

I was wondering why the announcers referred to him as a sophomore. What did he do when he burned his redshirt? I don't recall it at all.

Can't you play in a few games and still redshirt? I didn't think it was one of those things where "if you play, you're out".

Clearly I'm not understanding something. Are you saying that Barry didn't play at all last year, but it still counts against his eligibility because he didn't formally declare it to be a redshirt year? And if that's the case, why didn't he declare it as a redshirt year? Is this his responsibility or Shaw's?
Ignore all this. I had forgotten that Barry J Sanders redshirted last year. I'm dumb that way.

Burning a redshirt year means playing immediately. Using the redshirt year means sitting it out. Sanders used it.

You can redshirt any year your want though, iirc, as long as you don't play...right? If you played your first three years, went abroad your senior year, and came back to play your super senior year, you would have redshirted your senior year, I think.

Stanford lists its players by academic year. Sanders is a sophomore academically, but a redshirt freshman in football.

Academically, he is a sophomore. Athletically, he is a freshman. Stanford lists its athletes by academic class so Sanders appears in the media guide and on the roster on GoStanford as a soph.

ahh, okay i get it. Honestly, I had forgotten that Barry J was with us last year, so I actually thought he was a true freshman and that David Shaw burned his redshirt when he played him yesterday. Sorry for all the confusion I created. Thanks for clarifying.
anyway, I want to see more of #26. Those moves on the 16 yard pass reception were unlike any Stanford player's that I can remember. More more more!
