Re: Question re: "college near a BART" - Card Fan in OR - 11-07-2012

Hear, hear, 71 Bear.

Quote:I have great respect for Stanford and my Alma Mater.  We are incredibly fortunate to have two world class universities in the Bay Area.  To suggest otherwise only makes one look rather foolish...

While I find the "-f.u.r.d." epithet particularly loathsome (It's intended purpose, for sure.), the whole name-calling thing is reminiscent of a bunch of middle schoolers. Count me as solidly in favor of raising the bar for decorum here, there, everywhere. Healthy, even heated, rivalries, fine. Silly name-calling, I find demeaning.

I, too, am very proud of my alma mater, and I am pleased as can be that the Bay Area is fortunate enough to have two of the greatest universities in the world in such close proximity. I fear deeply for the future of all public universities in this country. I came from one before my graduate years at Stanford, and I work at one. I truly hope they find a way to survive and thrive.

Re: Question re: "college near a BART"Sticks and stones - JohnOlenchalk - 11-07-2012

can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.  I wouldn't worry too much about kal people, their opinions or their nuanced word games.  They never got the opportunity to have to choose between kal and Stanford, so they have to be proud of the school leading the nation in libtard graduates and failure to go to Rose Bowls in the modern era.

"college near a BART" is only an insult if you think that BART, or public transportation in general, is somehow negative.

Allan Bridgford, backup kal QB, might resemble that homophonic substitution :p

simply think that's the way it's actually spelled.

re: public education...

We took a step in the right direction yesterday.  Hopefully, it was an indicator, not just a "one-off", that people are finally coming to their senses that a viable workforce is dependent on a solid educational system...

Garvin - 71Bear - 11-08-2012

Well, if you gotta plug in a name, at least "59ers" is somewhat creatve (unlike the other stuff here), especially as a play on the name of our local professional football team.  I like creativity.  I abhor infantile...

Re: Question re: "college near a BART"Glenn, it's a play - JohnOlenchalk - 11-08-2012

on the last time they went to a Rose Bowl.  Wouldn't have any punch relating it to the Santa Clara 49ers.

Re: Question re: "college near a BART" - 71Bear - 11-09-2012

I know.  I should have said "double play" on the local pro team and the most recent RB visit (in January)...

Proof that there's no such thing as a tame b.ear - Redrum - 11-09-2012

Just b.ears who have graciously  delayed mauling you or eating you.  Just ask C.al grad Tim Treadwell.

1.  If you abhor infantile, why are you hanging around college sports message boards...and more to point, why are you hanging around us?

2. "...at least '59ers' is somewhat creative (unlike the other stuff here). "    Grrrrrrrrr.  Aww c'mon!    You have always gotten a pretty tolerant, even respectful reception here.  And then you say this.  Look, you want creative?  Check out the number of posts on Bear Insider about Jon Gruden as a legit target for C.al's head coaching job.
That is creative.

Re: Question re: "college near a BART" - 71Bear - 11-09-2012

Gruden to my Alma Mater isn't creative, it is pure fantasy...

The successor to the incumbent will be a mid-level college head coach (and , NO, not the Boise guy).

By the way, boards that possess deep knowledge re: the Civil War are hardly infantile.  Speaking of which, I am really looking forward to the "Lincoln" film.  It has received solid reviews and is based, in part, on "Team of Rivals" a great book by Doris Goodwin.
