Apparently we just offered wideout Allen Lazard, which is excellent: we surely don't have enough players whose names remind the listener of investment bankers.

He's committed to Iowa State (where his father played and brother plays currently).Â STANFORD appears to be the only other school he is still considering.

"Lazard said it would take something "drastic" for him to reconsider his Cyclone commitment" I would classify the opportunity to go to the best university in the world as "drastic."Â And this reminds me of Barry J Sanders's and Andrus Peat's situation.Â I say he shows up on the Farm.

Hmm ... I've been a student at Stanford and I've taught at Iowa State. Students at ISU are excellent, and were a pleasure to teach, but I can't think of any other factor that would put Iowa State in the plus column. Cyclone athletics have fallen so far (they're not even contenders in wrestling these days) and the weather is absolutely abominable. But he's from Iowa and maybe the extreme temps and ever-present gale-force winds don't bother him. They sure bothered me -- we left after a year.

Lazard's father and brother are both Cyclones, so there's the reason for his preference.

Two things I like here.Â STANFORD is the only school mentioned in the article.Â In the video, Jabrill reiterates STANFORD is still his top choice.

4.0 GPA.Â Incredibly life story.Â Old Union better not screw this one up.

I love the thought of Peppers coming to Stanford.Â Assuming he is sincere in his interviews, he is a young man of high character who shows a tremendous amount of maturity.Â Exactly the kind of young man you want on your team.

But, of course, the 4.0 gpa really doesn't, by itself, guarantee entrance.Â He'll need to prove himself with some strong test scores and probably a couple of AP classes.Â But, like the rest of us, I'm hoping he rises to those challenges and makes all the marks necessary to put on the Stanford jersey in 2014.Â That would be great for the program and, regardless of how things turn out on the field, a fantastic reward for Peppers, and an affirmation of all his hard work.Â

I'm curious - What HAS Sherman said about Stanford since moving to the NFL?Â By all reports Harbaugh rode him pretty hard his first two years but some wise decisions were made along the way that worked out for both men.Â Which storyline resonates four years later?

Sherman, like Baldwin, like Shaw but were, shall we say, cool on Harbaugh. Both of them showed up at the Fiesta Bowl pre-game rally. (They also semi-frequently tweet about Stanford.) So they like the institution but don't like Harbaugh, is probably the best way to characterize it. I'm sure if Peppers were to somehow come into contact with Sherman,* he'd give a good reference.

* Not impossible! Mysteriously, famous former alumni of many schools contrive to just happen to show up during prominent recruits' visits, and just happen to bump into said recruits. The magic of coincidence!

Alabama offered Garrett Dickerson.Â Stanford beat Alabama for a TE last year. Let's hope it happens again.

The best part of the article is the last sentence:

"But of course, he has received some "h-word" offers from schools like Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, and Stanford (just to name five).

It still tickles me to see Stanford listed along with the elite programs, though I'm not sure how Tennessee qualified there.
