Why is that not a good sign? Aren't Shaw and Brian Kelly doing in-home visits too?

Michigan fans have their full Lord-of-the-Manor mode engaged. I was just in Ann Arbor (to root for my brother in a tennis match), and I was struck to the extent they've slipped back into their baronial ways. They're not quite as annoying as the University of South Central fans--though that may be because I'm not exposed to them on a regular basis--but I would argue it leads to overconfidence on their part. They haven't lost out on a big recruit to Stanford in the Harbaugh/Shaw era; consequently, the idea of losing to Stanford for a recruit must seem as weird as, say, losing to Appalachian State in football would be. To pick a random example. They've definitely ignored Garnett comments that would seem to weigh heavily against their school (e.g. the "sunny weather" comment from a while ago; or, for example, not noting the extreme tonal difference in interviews given to Michigan sites versus all other sites re: Stanford visit), because they're fans, and fans who expect to win just about everything at all times.
Anyway, I really have no idea what Garnett is doing and I doubt anyone else does either.

You're seriously comparing Michigan fans to USC fans? Really? Not even close. I hope he chooses Stanford just for the sake of playing time. I also obsessively follow Michigan football so I've heard both sides of the fence. Garnett has definitely soaked up Ann Arbor and the Big House and has friends going there. I just hope he made some good friends on his last visit to the Farm. It's going be hard to overcome the in-home visit from Hoke last when he's announcing on the 26th.
Michigan fans aren't ignoring comments from Garnett, nor are they worried about the recruiting battle between Stanford/Michigan. It isn't about which school is better, its about whats best for him. Michigan fans respect Stanford, as should Stanford fans.Â
That being said, I still hope he chooses Stanford for the sake of the continued success of Stanford. Michigan already have a solid line coming in.Â

I still don't understand this point. Shaw visited Garnett on Saturday. Hoke visited Garnett on Sunday. Both coaches got their chance to make their final pitch. Why is Hoke's visit such a crucial advantage for Michigan?

I think the key is not "Hoke" but the "last" part. Kind of like the Bachelor on ABC. The rejected parties are addressed first, and then the happy times start as the winner comes up "last".
In this context, coming up last is good. It would be hard to verbal to Shaw if Hoke is coming the next day. However, it would be possible to verbal to Hoke, if Hoke was last on the schedule.
At least, that is what I thought about when I heard that Shaw was scheduled to visit first. It was hard for me to see how first could be good. It might not matter, but last should be better in this situation.

I tend to doubt that the order of the visits is indicative of current preferences or will be determinative of the decision. But that's just my guess.

It's hard to believe that a "recency bias" would be a strong factor in a decision that has been mulled for over a year. If you were choosing between candy bars and had just seen a commercial for Snickers, it might sway your decision. But when you've talked to multiple coaches, visited the schools, discuss the decision with family, friends, and coaches, I have a hard time believing it will come down to who was in the living room last.
