Re: Big Game in October - FarmBoy - 01-04-2012

I am more pissed about the general schedule than having Big Game in October.

Is the Pac12 scared that Stanford might knock off the boys of troy from their title run, so they make sure our 1st year QB has barely any experience before throwing him to the wolves? And without the students there to make some noise? There definitely seems to be a bit of favoritism in the schedule.

Quote:I noticed we missed Utah and Arizona State again.

I believe the games are scheduled on 2 year rotations. So we play Colorado and UA home and away two years, the flip to Utah and ASU.

On another note, not all pundits are expecting a Luck-less Stanford will be able to complete . Some web site called NationalChamps.net is picking us 9th pre-season for 2012. (http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/32807/three-pac-12-in-2012-preseason-top-25)

Re: Big Game in October - OutsiderFan - 01-04-2012

At least you have a bye.  California gets to play 12 straight weeks.  Nobody is going to hold up the football schedule so Stanford students can come to campus.  Besides, are Duke and San Jose State hot tickets?  USC is and that game will sell even if the students aren't there, and perhaps that could be  magnet to get students to show up sooner than they would for say Washington State.

Anyway, don't sleep on playing USC at home so early.  USC is historically terrible in its first OOC road game.  And then you have a bye after USC to get ready to play Washington the following Thursday.  So you get 12 days off after USC to prepare for UW, and then you get nine days off before the next game at home against Arizona.

Look a little deeper.  The schedule isn't that bad for Stanford.

Lurck--

As long as EVERY other conference rivalry game (even the hallowed UTAH-COLORADO grudge match) rotates to that mid-October date in turn.  And not every season with the Bay Area game being the designated sacrifice to the gods of ESPN (as determined by a vote of our utterly disinterested peer schools).

And Outsider, no one is saying that the entire schedule should be held up on Stanford's academic calendar.  But the three games before the Stanford school year begins is awful.  Wonder if Bowlsby even considered that possible issue?  The Stanford release on it seems to indicate lobbying for Big Game, but no awareness of scheduling half the home schedule with no students on campus.  UCLA has a similar academic schedule, and also has three early home games, but at least they have 7 home games this year.

Re: Big Game in October - fullmetal - 01-04-2012

Wish I'd known about this before the game.  I shook hands with Bowlsby during the game but didn't have anything else to say.
