I don't understand how Syracuse can be a 6 seed while we're unseeded. They are 13-5, we are 15-4. We beat them head to head. We both lost to UNC twice and to BC. Their remainin loss is to Maryland (quality loss) while our other loss is to Villanova (less quality). Does our Villanova loss really outweigh us beating Syracuse head to head by so much that we can't even be a top 8 seed?!?!

Syracuse has an RPI of 6 and SOS 8 and no bad losses.
Stanford has an RPI of 11 and SOS 13 and Stanford loss to Villanova. 

Syracuse also has a top 5 win (Northwestern) and Stanford does not. This is based on RPI not rankings.

I believe if it were close then head to head would be considered.

A similar thing happened last season when Stanford was on track to host and then lost to Denver at home 8-14 on the second to last regular season game. We then played Denver at Florida during the NCAA tournament and beat them 10-4. We then played Florida and lost 12-13 (OT).

Good point about the NW win for Syracuse, I missed that when I looked at their schedules. I think the takeaway is that there's no benefit to scheduling midseason non-conference matches against mediocre teams. Win and it doesn't help you, lose and it kills your RPI.

Well, Thursday's conference tournament results did not go as I had (unrealistically) hoped. Stony Brook, Navy, Army, Florida and Colorado all won.

I mean at this point, the writing is on the metaphorical wall, right? Either Florida or Colorado will win the Big 12, and either Navy or Army will win the Big 12. Even if Stony Brook gets food poisoning--for which I do not wish!--and loses to 8-10 Towson (38 RPI), Stanford is not jumping two more teams.

As I understand it, we'll find out Sunday night where Stanford is headed. Colorado would be the easiest in terms of transportation/time zone difference, but Boulder has an elevation of ca 5400 ft, and I don't know how much time Stanford's team would have to acclimate. I think all of the other reasonably possible sites are in the Eastern Time Zone (can't see us heading to Northwestern?).

The selection show is Sunday, May 3 at 6 pm PDT on ESPNU.

The first round games are May 8 and second round games are May 10.

Boulder would be the shortest travel and only 1 hour time change. Next would be Ann Arbor or Northwestern in the central time zones. Lastly would be the eastern time zone and the worst trip would probably be to Florida.

I believe, but cannot confirm that the teams would travel 2 days before the game, so May 6. 

If Colorado wins the Big-12 and is seeded, then the first game for Stanford could be against Denver. After seeding, all teams are assigned to sites by geography to minimize travel to a site. Any school less than 400 miles from a site will be bussed.

We will know Sunday.

It has us going to Colorado to play Denver. If we win we play the winner of Colorado/Mercer.

Selection show is at 6 pm on ESPNU. We will see where we a playing.

Thanks for sharing, SFTT. According to the link you shared:

"The committee seeds the top 8 teams to host first- and second-round games. The top 3 seeds will receive byes into the second round. All other teams are unseeded and will be placed geographically, while keeping bracket integrity when possible."

Given that teams 9-29 are unseeded and placed geographically, Boulder, CO doesn't seem so bad. The next nearest-to-Stanford hosting location would be Evanston, IL, i.e. likely 1-seed Northwestern.

Given that choice, I'll take the Colorado option.

Stanford was placed in Michigan’s pod facing Penn State in the first round. Would face the winner of Michigan/Mercer in the second round. 

A former Stanford goalie posted that the second place team in the ACC has always been seeded until this year. Also the only west coast team to host was USC, until now Colorado is hosting. Stanford could have hosted last year, but lost to Denver. This season the loss to Villanova ended any hopes of hosting. It was completely under the team’s control and the only one to blame for them not hosting is themselves.

Just took a look at the bracket. Colorado and Florida just played for the Big 12 championship in Gainesville, FL and now Florida gets to travel to Boulder, CO for the NCAA tournament. Will be a rematch at altitude if Florida gets by Denver and Colorado beats... Jacksonville University. So much for those geographic considerations.

Just for kicks, here are the RPI rankings for the teams in the Michigan part of the bracket:
9 - Michigan (seeded #7 in the tournament)
11 - Stanford
18 - Penn State
55 - Mercer

Syracuse had the 2nd-highest RPI of the ACC schools, but that #6 RPI wasn't enough to be seeded in the top 8. Instead they end up in the Navy part of the bracket.

Most importantly, Stanford and Penn State play at 3 pm PT on Friday, following Michigan vs Mercer. The NCAA broadcast info page is showing that the entire first round will be televised on ESPN+, at least as of 8:50 pm on Sunday.

This shows how bad the Villanova loss was. Syracuse had an RPI of 6, but I feel they didn't get seeded because they finished fourth in the regular season and the committee couldn't justify seeding them and not Stanford, who finished second. Clemson finished third.

The BC loss also hurt, but we might have been seeded with only losing to BC and UNC.

It really was a failure of the coaching staff to properly prepare for the Villanova game. This is the reputation of the head coach, she overlooks teams.

Six out of 13 ACC teams, including BC, made the field of 29. That seems like a pretty good showing to me. SFTT, maybe it was the committee's way of making up for the Stanford-Syracuse dilemma?
