More clown officiating. The bench called a travel earlier. Just let ASUs bench call the game.

I saw her do it and was surprised they didn't whistle it right away.

Technically correct, practically wrong. That minor with refs staring at it with no initial call, let it go. Bad look for the bench to have that much influence.

Ogden with brilliant assist to Iriafen
That last foul that put Cam on the bench was bogus

Yeah the ASU player jumped into her. Cam’s second foul was dumb though.

Is Kiki leading the team in steals? That’s at least 2.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ ASU Friday 5pm - TonyLima - 01-26-2024

With all the excitement about scoring and rebounds, Brink has three assists as well. The brink to Iriafen connection is working amazingly well.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ ASU Friday 5pm - Hieronymus - 01-26-2024

16% of ASUs points are bricked/banked threes.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ ASU Friday 5pm - SkiBum80 - 01-26-2024

OMG foul #4 on Cam another totally cheesy one
The other player stumbles into Cam and it’s foul on Cam?

Kiki has two. Brooke has three.

As great as Kiki is this year she still struggles finishing contested lay ups.

Welcome to the Pac-12.

Why would Walt Disney World be advertising on Pac-12 Network?

Hieronymus - Hieronymus - 01-26-2024

There has been some really nice passing tonight.

Kiki up to 3 steals and they have all been very memorable.

Shoot that Papadaki - I am sure I misspelled that - you don’t get that many chances

RE: WBB: Stanford @ ASU Friday 5pm - SkiBum80 - 01-26-2024

Tonight I’m gonna dream What If Cam can ever play a complete game

It seems like she goes up a bit too strong with her right hand. I don’t recall her missing with her left tonight.

But yeah, she probably could have scored 30 with some of those missed bunnies.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I can explain why ASU’s posts left her so open so often. Were they over-rotating on Cam?

She's taller and quicker than her defenders.

RE: WBB: Stanford 80 ASU 50 - 81alum - 01-26-2024

I thought Joan Bonvicini was fine.  She has broadcast a lot of the games in Arizona for years probably because she coached Arizona for 17 years and has a home there.  700 wins isn't to Tara standards but she clearly knows the game.

All in all, not a lot to complain about.  My takeaways:

1) A 30 point win on the road is always something to marvel at.

2) The announcers were correct, while we fans ogle the points and the offense, a key to Stanford's success has been a very good defense.  Not the dramatic kind that gets a lot of steals, but the effective kind that holds the opponent to 29% shooting, as we did tonight.  And 7 blocks doesn't hurt either.

3) Rebounding.  We snagged 35 of ASU's misses, they got 14.  ASU snagged 19 of our misses, we got 14.  That is incredibly lopsided in our favor.
Brink and Iriafen had 30 rebounds between the two of them.

4) Lepolo's passing was a thing of beauty tonight.  7 assists to 0 turnovers.  And she led +/- at 25 by quite a bit.

5) I am particularly pleased that Jump's shooting started to get back on track tonight.  Plus she was defending ASU's best player most of the game.  Tara took her out to rest her a bit more--she played "only" thirty minutes.  I think playing her so many minutes may in fact have done something to her accuracy.  Same thing happened to Kiana Williams her senior year, and resting her just a little seemed to help.

6) So wonderful to see Brink out there being her spectacular self again.

A good start to the road trip.  Sunday will be a bigger test in front of a much more raucous crowd.

LOL Nice try, but that doesn’t explain how she had so much daylight around her.

I'm hoping we've done some work re: dealing with unruly crowds.

I had to laugh last night at Mulkey saying her team (the one returning many starters from the NC team) wasn't as experienced as South Carolina (the one with newbies) was going into an unfriendly environment. Had me wondering all day what Dawn did to prepare them for such games.

RE: WBB: Stanford 80 ASU 50 - jonnyss - 01-26-2024

cam and kiki played great.

more time for ogden.

yes, 2 bogus foul calls on cam.

the foul call on ogden when jadden simmons (i think it was simmons) got hurt seemed really bogus. ok, simmons was hurt, so maybe a sympathy call goes to her. but it looked to me like simmons undercut her as ogden went up for the basket. plus the asu rebounder pushed ogden down onto simmons.

hard to stop her without a double team. equally true of cam. if you double team both, there's only 1 defender for talana, hannah, and whoever's in at the 3.

Yeah hard to complain too much about the team tonight. A few too many turnovers and dumb defensive fouls in the first half. But it took 2 bricked but made threes for ASU to keep it close at half. Nice passing  tonight and excellent defense and rebounding. Brink, Leopolo and Kiki were great. Jump and Demetre were solid.

Taking care of business.

On a side note the men’s officiating is full on corrupt tonight. Totally different block v charge standards for the 2 teams.

It was legit.  Ogden's left hand came down after her shot and back, catching Simmons on her left cheek.

No one has commented on the (unintentional) elbow to Iriafen chin Q3 6:23 that appeared to knock her out for an instant.  She got up right away, but she went down in a crumple.  No call was made.  No review was made.

Totally agree, except I thought Lepolo had a turnover early on.
