But he did point out things that weren't the best (Stanford's offense was not working in the 4th, the choice of the last shot for Oregon, etc.)
Lexie Hull got a nice tip of the hat from him, as well as Stanford WBB & Tara. And Nneka (who was at the WBB game) too. He also said that Haase was a good (or was it great) coach. He liked the last Stanford play and complimented Haase on drawing that up.
If you missed it, Adam Keefe was at the game for his son's first start.
So, if you watch a replay, try leaving the sound on and see what you think. Maybe Walton's changing his style a bit.
It helped quite a bit that his partner, Ted Robinson, is an experienced play-by-play guy who did his best to rein in Walton.
I think the last game (and most often, I think) Walton's partner has been Dave Pasch, who, for whatever reason, thinks it's a good idea to encourage Walton's stream of consciousness/buffoonery while acting exasperated.

Great win! Hope the team can stay healthy, focused, and together through the season.
Still confuses me that Beskind got several starts and now zero minutes.

Walton seemed more interested in the game than usual. Don't get too excited when he praises someone, though. Everything is the best ever (or worst ever) with him.

I'll admit to liking Bill Walton and his commentary. I don't even mind when he goes off track into his long and weird introspective journeys. I particularly don't mind his over-the-top homer support of the PAC12, even if it's a bit much it doesn't begin to make up for how commonly the PAC gets dismissed. Last year he got proven right in ways no one imagined.
He's unconventional and plain weird but he earned it on the court and does provide interesting commentary and insight. When we were up by 12 or so with 10 minutes to go and he says the game had all the hallmarks of one which will go down to the wire, I didn't want to believe it but I had a strong suspicion he was right, which of course proved to be the case.
I say give me 10 Bill Waltons before subjecting me to 1 Dick Vitale

Beskind got the starts to light a fire under all of his guards. Haase was simply sending them a message that if they don't compete and play defense with intensity like Beskind then you can enjoy the view from the bench.
I think it worked. The defense was much improved tonight

I'm with you, Triangle, in liking Walton calling the games, including all the meandering and randomness and Pac12 homerness.
Variety is the spice of life, and Walton is Dragon's Breath Chile (had to Google spiciest pepper for that one).

I wonder whether someone asked him to concentrate on the game more. I don't mind the commentary; my main objection is that he doesn't identify the players enuf..This game was much better in that regard.

I don't think there is any question you are correct. There is enough talent that he can send a message without doing too much damage.

I enjoy spicy food. A couple months ago I had (no exaggeration) exactly one drop of Carolina Reaper hot sauce on a bowl of ramen and cried for 10 straight minutes.
In any case, that must be what being an Oregon MBB fan must have felt like last night. At least this season will get rid of some of their bandwagoners. God they're annoying.
Also in other MBB news, UW lost to Winthrop the other week at home by 8 (YIKES!!!), but at least Daejon had his best game of the season by far with 21 points.

Don't dis Winthrop they are a very frequent ticket puncher, usually when they have an experienced lineup of juniors and seniors, which also means they know how to play on the road

Trying to work through recording of this game. Notes Walton talking about how good the strength and conditioning program is. So….is it really good? If so, surely Shaw can learn something from This program and also others!
