I believe Cal had Jason Kidd, as well. First college basketball game at the new San Jose Arena was SCU vs. Cal with Nash vs. Kidd. 14,000+ fans. Much fun.
Really liked watching Knight and Nash play against each other both in college and in the NBA.
When I was at Stanford, I bandwagoned the Phoenix Suns as my NBA team, for little more reason than liking Steve Nash's hair.

Final score, 88-72. First win against Stanford since 2006, I think. SCU played out of their mind, 60% FG, 48% from 3 pt range, just 8/15 at the stripe. Stanford outrebounded SCU 38-31, Stanford also had three more turnovers, 15-12. SCU had 27 assists, Stanford had 13, Stanford also led in fouls, 18-12.
Stanford made a nice run at the end. Silva (12), O'Connell (13), Ingram (19), Raynaud (16). Raynaud fouled out in 22 minutes, but I really like him. Hope the rest of the season goes well for Stanford and Coach Haase.

Sounds like it's going to be a long season. *sigh*
Anyone besides me feel like the wind has been against us in a number of sports lately?

Sounds like we have a young team that will improve as the season goes on.
Also sounds like we are going to need to.

Didn’t watch. Nobody gets fired at Stanford anymore.
Great that you guys have the women and the country club sports to keep you going.
The men’s side of your athletic program is going down the rabbit hole.

Fun with the
lineup analyzer. Small sample sizes, but these are strong trends:
With Raynaud and Ingram on the court, we score 1.42 points per possession (NCAA average is near 1.0, so that's a ton).
When those two are off the court, we're scoring 0.78 points per possession (abysmal).
Silva is +0.32 points per offensive possession on vs. off.
O'Connell is -0.14 points per offensive possession.
It's clear to me who the starting 5 needs to be. I wonder when it will become clear to Haase...

Delaire, Kisunas and Jones combined for 10 points on 4 for 19 shooting. They had 8 TOs.
If that is all they got, bench 'em.
Raynaud needs to work on his fouls, but he should start. He has a bright future.

Wow. We’re up to post #49 on this thread and no one has yet blamed it on Dawkins. Maybe people have forgotten him, … you know, the guy who last took Stanford to the Sweet 16 (and also beat Santa Clara).

I think you meant to say Bernard Muir. He was the one that gave the ill-advised extension to Dawkins and then chose Haase to suceed him. Haase has been given more than enough time to prove himself. His end of season flameouts are too much of pattern.
As for Dawkins Muir's hand was forced by the parents/players at the end of his tenure. No one at Stanford wanted to play for him. He is the process of creating more mediocrity at UCF. He was a poor choice to begin with and didn't recruit well enough to sustain the one year he went to the NCAAs.

Don't say that to the wrestling and mens' gymnastic teams.

The lineup of Ingram, Raynaud, Delaire, O'Connell, and Jones is not awful. If they can find their groove, they can hang with the lower tier of the P12. They all have to play up to their capabilities for this team to have a chance. Delaire and Jones were terrible last night.
IMO, the most disappointing thing about this team is their depth. After those 5, it really gets rough. I think Silva could be a nice player as he develops, but he's got a long ways to go defensively and he needs to take care of the ball. Kisunas is serviceable, but pretty much the same player we've seen in the past. Murrell shows flashes of talent, but also doesn't look much improved over last year. Angel, Keefe, and Taitz - tough to compete when they are on the floor and I don't think they have the talent to be impact players. Just too physically limited.

Depends on the type of zone. If you play match up with wings that generally are long, you can play zone and defend the three.

Those were disappointing performances in the first two games.
Very soon the starting lineup needs to be O’Connell/Silva, Jones, Ingram, Delaire, Raynaud. I think the regular rotation will also include Murrell and Kisunas. That’s a limited 8-man rotation that needs to learn to play well together at both ends of the floor - turnovers and defensive lapses have to be minimized. And Jones and Delaire need to find their groove in the next few games.
Everyone else seems to me to be fillers when there is foul trouble or someone needs a quick breather, with the possible pleasant surprises, from what I’ve seen (or not yet seen), limited to Moss and Taitz. I’d love it if Angel started making significant and consistent contributions, but so far.... Keefe will always hustle, but this team needs all the offense it can muster.

I thought Haase was a great hire at the time. Stanford had been weakened as a program after Johnson and then Muir keeping Dawkins at least 2 or 3 years too long (he should have fired him when he came in as AD).
But Haase hasn't delivered the results. He's recruited well, but not developed any cohesion. The whole is less than the sum of the parts, not greater. The end of season fades year after year are a serious problem. You need to be playing your best in February & March, not your worst.
Get me some Maddog on our sideline. I won't be spending much time watching this season, and I won't even take free tickets to see them live.
