Expecting an announcement shortly from ESPN that, to open next year's season, they will be scheduling the first-ever back-to-back-to-back-to-back gameday with UCONN playing the bottom four Division I teams from this year's season in serial fashion over the course of the day...

And introducing the new "handicap" rule, which will give each of the cupcakes anywhere from 10 to 20 points to start the game with.

Number of wins to tie Pat: 4
Geno's wins this season: 0
Geno's total wins so far: 1091
Number of wins to tie Pat: 7
Stanford Upcoming games:

3. WSU
4. Washington Dec 6 first possible chance to tie Pat
5. UC Davis Dec 11 first possible chance to surpass Pat
Geno's first chance to surpass Pat would be Jan 7 at Baylor--UConn's 8th game. Wouldn't it be nice if Carrington prevented that from happening.

Not that any game should be taken lightly and with COVID still affecting life... this set up to break the record could not be set up more perfectly... needs 5 wins to and the the first 5 games are at home...

You're assuming that the games will be allowed to be played. With the COVID levels as high as they are and the Rt > 1.4, I wouldn't be surprised if most of us agree that they may need to be rescheduled to after the winter outbreak.
Santa Clara County: Daily new cases/100K: 11.9 R: 1.46 Estimated new cases/100K on 12/11: 47.4
Connecticut: Daily new cases/100K: 48.8 R: 1.53 Estimated new cases/100K on 12/22: 484.3
I used game 5 for Stanford (if all wins, Tara passes Pat)
and game 7 for UConn (if all wins, Geno ties Pat. Game 8 is Jan. 7)
I took the current Rt. I used a period of 6.3 days for each generation (serial interval, from the
paper of the group estimating Rt). The 23 days from now to 12/11 represents 3.65 generations.
1.46 to the 3.65th power = 3.98. The current daily new case rate, at this growth rate, would be 3.98 times higher in 23 days.
UConn's 7th game is 34 days out, or 5.4 generations. or a factor of 9.93x the current daily new case rate (48.8).
I don't claim that these are true predictions. They are based on current growth rate. Things WILL change, most likely with governmental actions (shutting things down) and people staying isolated. The COVID death rate will shoot up by then from the late October rise in cases.
I would believe that the basketball season doesn't go even 4 games for Stanford. I surely expect it won't go 7 games for UConn.

Yes, I’m assuming the games will be played and do not want to think otherwise.. Player and coaches safety is number 1, but I feel optimistic that they can be played with testing and all teams being strict the way Stanford has been with keeping everyone on the team safe..

Yes, MT, as I have said before, I will believe this season when I see it.
One possible outcome, unfortunately, is that Santa Clara Country does the right thing as cases skyrocket and shuts our games down, while the health department for UConn (or Baylor, for that matter, where UConn has that road trip) lets things go. If that happens, Geno could surpass Tara.
So I supposed we shouldn't get too excited.
At least the 2021-22 season is beginning to look very good, after Fauci said that he expects the general public to have free access to several vaccine choices by summer.

Your "right thing" I call horse$hit.
The players will be fine in all events; take reasonable precautions for the competitors' travel, keep the adults/fans away, if necessary, and everyone should be fine. Was it here or on the other site where someone said there was no example of transmission of virus in pool, gridiron, pitch, court or other sporting competition. [Not sure the basis of such a statement - perhaps nothing firmly documented]. Regardless, the hoops season can be done with reasonable safety measures, and the SCC Bureaucrat should work towards that and not toward surrender. Just my opinion.

I guess Teejers must feel the whole set of PAC-12 athletes are protected by Gardol. No matter how bad it gets in the community, the
invisible shield will protect them. I'm sure we all wish it were that simple.
I wish to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Cody for her attention to the health of the people of the county.

So far Oregon state has had one game cancelled and Arizona two
Idaho one of the Oregon state games had to cancel their first two games. I won’t make the political comment ?

ESPN will televise #5 Louisville vs. #3 UConn, December 4th at 4 pm (Pacific). Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT
Hoping Louisville brings their A+ game with them.
No other major teams scheduled by ESPN as of this writing.

To quote a certain WBB coach, "the best ability is avail-ability." The problem is, we need Cal Poly, Pacific, and Davis to be as scrupulous as Tara's team. It seems Tara's former team Idaho was not.

A few years back, was it a university's tennis team who scheduled back to back to back to back to back patsies so they could qualify to the NCAAs?
I can fathom Yukon scheduling back to back to back double-headers vs. Super Patsies just so Geeno surpasses Summit before Tara.
RE: WBB: The Race to the Summitt -
JustAnotherFan - 11-20-2020
I don't think UConn and Geno are worried about Tara getting there first. I think that they would relish the opportunity for a bunch of media hype around Tara breaking the record, and then having Geno break her record. Or maybe they would like to see her never have the chance to hold it, even briefly. I don't know. I just hope that Stanford is entering into a golden era with recruits, wins, and championships.

yes, but it didn't work, the NCAA disallowed the scheme.
I think it was 2 or 3 matches on the same day, same opponent (who presumably was paid well for participating).

Here's perhaps a punishment from the woofing gods, for the UConn fans woofing about how Geno will certainly pass Tara's win total before the end of this season.

It's definitely a challenge for the Huskies -- especially since Mississippi State and Louisville were two of the biggest games on their schedule. They may be in the Big East, but these cancellations just made the game against South Carolina and Baylor significantly more important for building a tournament resume.
I expect Stanford to be hit by the same challenge at some point this season. It's just a matter of time the way things are going.
