RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - ColoradoTree - 05-18-2019

Interestingly, the scoreboard is showing our #3 doubles as Lord/Shin rather than Lord/Madurawe.

It's one thing to make an adjustment at the bottom of your singles lineup, switching your #6 and your #7. But to adjust the composition of a doubles team at this point in the year, when Lord and Shin haven't played together in several months? I assume Madurawe tweaked something, because this isn't ideal.

A good start in doubles:

1. Lampl/Yee lead 3-0
2. Arbuthnott/Gordon tied 1-1
3. Lord/Shin lead 2-1 (up a break)

But doubles is fickle.

Doubles point to Stanford!

well this is an unwelcome turn of events.
But at least there is zero chance UNC knows anything about her! The element of surprise is ours! (desperate attempt to spin this favorably)

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - ColoradoTree - 05-18-2019

She’s up a break, too! It’s Lord, Lampl, and Choy up a break or with the first set won already. Gordon was down 0-3, but fought back to 3-3 before getting broken again. Arbuthnott is down a break, and Shin is getting crushed.

It is truly frustrating that we can’t get more consistent performances out of Shin this season.

Lampl takes her first set 6-1, and Lord matches that score a minute later.

Choy is broken on deuce point serving for her first set, and that one is now 5-5.

Arbuthnott drops her first 3-6, Gordon did the same a moment later, and Shin is serving down 2-5.

Let’s hope Lord and Lampl win quickly so we can put the pressure on UNC and put a little wind in the sails of the folks that are still battling....

Choy breaks and then serves it out to take the first set 7-5. As it stands, we need her match, as Gordon, Arbuthnott, and Shin all lost their first sets.

Choy won the first set 7-5.  CHOY, CHOY, CHOY . . .

I wonder what her UTR is against Sanford?

She’s -0.29, so Sanford is a favorite, but not by that big of a margin.

Choy seemed perhaps to have some nerves when she got close to winning the first set.  After she was broken resulting in 5-5, in the next game, it was love-40 but then let it get to 40-40 before she finished the break.   I've been watching her match and she does seem like the better player, but I'm no real judge.

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - martyup - 05-18-2019

By golly, we just need to win 50% (3 of 6) to move on to the finals.  Seems so easy, but . . .

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - ColoradoTree - 05-18-2019

Stanford 1, North Carolina 0

1. Gordon trails 3-6, 3-1
2. Lord leads 6-1, 3-3
3. Lampl leads 6-1, 3-3
4. Arbuthnott trails 3-6, 2-1 (on serve)
5. Shin trails 3-6, 2-0
6. Choy leads 7-5, 2-1 (up a break)

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - M T - 05-18-2019

Up a break in four 2nd sets!

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - ColoradoTree - 05-18-2019

Stanford 1, North Carolina 0

1. Gordon trails 3-6, 4-2
2. Lord leads 6-1, 5-3
3. Lampl leads 6-1, 4-4
4. Arbuthnott trails 3-6, 4-2
5. Shin trails 3-6, 3-1
6. Choy leads 7-5, 5-1

2-0 as Lord is the first off court!

3-0 Stanford as Choy wins 7-5, 6-1! Lampl serving for it now....

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - terry - 05-18-2019

Come on, folks, how many of you projected Choy to win in singles in this match?

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - qwerty49 - 05-18-2019

Sara Choy wins!  Way to step up!  I watched her match and she hardly made any unforced errors.

And Lord too!

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - BostonCard - 05-18-2019

So excited for Choy!

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - ColoradoTree - 05-18-2019

Lampl is broken serving for the match, and then Daavettila holds. Lampl will serve to force a second-set tiebreaker now.

The other matches are tightening, so Lampl delivering this would relieve my anxiety nicely.

RE: Women's Tennis: Team Finals - M T - 05-18-2019

Everyone must be watching Lampl's match as the video is dragging.
