Game over. Again. Congrats Cougs! Great to get a win with Gameday on campus.
Now let's beat them on Homecoming next week.

Give the pirate some credit. He goes for it on fourth down, converts and then throws for a TD. Now a 14 point game with 4 minutes left.

Yeah, but I'll take Shaw.

Don't "turtle" it Cougs. :)
They didn't, and scored another TD to pretty much put away the game. They went for it on 4th and 6 from the Oregon 34. Wonder what Shaw would have done?

Oh, that's easy. Don't risk a blocked FG or a bad snap for a punt. Don't risk a pass that could be tipped, or incomplete to stop the clock. Ergo, run it up the middle.

It worked for him tonight, but Leach has had his game management backfire on him many times.

And Cristobal burns his last timeout for good measure. Total disaster in managing this comeback. Way too slow, trading FG's for 11 combined minutes off the clock.

Quote:verb (inf=to coug it, coug it, - , - , - )
- (context, US, idiom, slang) To suddenly lose a contest through reversal of fortune, mistakes, or bad judgment. The phrase is analogous to "blow it", or "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory".

Etymology: Slang term unique to the sports culture of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The term was born out of reference to the Washington State University "Cougars", the football and basketball teams of which have notable histories of losing games in waning moments. Oh me too. There’s more than one way to skim the proverbial cat, and wen you are up 2 TD’s into the fourth quarter or 27 points to start the half, you should win, and both did. Plus, it was coaching that got you the lead.
It will be a tough game next week. I suspect WSU will be favored by a TD or so.

Fines for storming the field are really silly.

Given Leach's performance in the post game press conference after the loss to the Bares last year, it would have been amusing to hear what he would have said if the Ducks had come back and won.

I hope the Coug players go overboard celebrating and wake up in the slammer.

One issue that has to be considered when you talk about "turtle mode" is who the teams are. I think Leach would tell you they don't have a real "turtle mode" ability. They basically don't run the ball, so they do what they know how to do. If that one pass that the receiver took away from the DB goes the other way, it could be a different situation.
Stanford is not doing real good on the ground this year, but we at least practice it a lot (even in games it seems). And it does take time.

Yeah, I really doubt if our defense is going to be able to stop the Coug's passing attack. I hope Costello and the offense will be ready for a big, big day.

No kidding, he had one of the most high school impressive tapes I'd seen since McCaffrey. Interesting that he stayed with WSU because of the bond he had formed with the RB coach there, and then the coach abandoned WSU for Oregon.
