Love certainly made an impression even though nobody saw his game against UCLA.

Love is 3rd in that straw poll for the H award.  That is only one click away from the Stanford modern day ceiling.

One underrated part about the Love block: he takes down the pass rusher... who rolls on his back and up to his feet. He pursues the play, somewhat half-heartedly, while looking back, as if to say, "who the hell is that guy?"

Here's a stat:

Love has 9 30+ yard runs in 73 caries; that's roughly 1 30-yard gain every 8 times he touches the ball, 2+ per game.  He has 5(!) 50+ yard runs, which is over 1 per game, and 1 every 15 times he touches the ball.

Here's our eight remaining opponents, their current Top 25 rank (if any) and their rushing defense rank in the NCAA:

Arizona State, ranked #75
#20 Utah, ranked #7
Oregon, ranked #35
Oregon State, ranked #105
#16 Washington St, ranked #41
#6 Washington, ranked #20
Cal, ranked #59
#22 Notre Dame, ranked #73

By way of comparison, SDSU is #45, Rice is #58, USC is #74, and UCLA is dead last at #129.

Oh and incidentally, Stanford is #94.

Bunch of fun highlights here, but the one with Love's block on Costello's TD is the clip entitled "Costello lays out for the Stanford TD"

Wow, that really was a good block! The guy Love blocked is a DE who is listed at 6'6", 275, so Love was giving up 80 pounds. Pretty impressive.

At least two of those UCLA guys launched and led with their helmets. If they're not teaching that in Westwood, they're sure not stopping it.

Re: Love?!? - Hurlburt88 - 09-25-2017

Re-watching Love's block, I think #90 from UCLA wanted a holding . . . motioned that Love wrapped his arms.  Either way it was a great block that took our friend #90 right out of the play both physically and mentally!

WIM, I think the pass rusher is looking at the official for a holding penalty. Perhaps Love very discreetly pulled him down as he tried to break away from the block and pursue Costello.

Edit - Sorry, Hurlburt88. I just noticed that you made the same point a few hours ago. I am re-watching the game now on P12 Network.

Re: Love?!? - Treebound - 09-25-2017

Spiny and Hurlburt, that was my read as well.  I love that Love took the DE on with full force, but there looked to be a little bit of a trip, shoe grab, etc.. at the end of the block.  It's a judgment call that the DE was hoping he would get to save his embarrassment at not sealing the edge. Poor technique.  He was clearly looking back at the official with Bruin dismay.  His buddies will no doubt let him hear it come film time.
