Blyashov was spectacular today and fittingly got the final kill. Stanford wins set 4, 31-29.
Yup pretty incredible 2 game stretch from Blyashov. Lizzy also very good.
Kurt 56 and Blyashov 55 attempts. Harvey only 19.
Harvey also had many less attempts last weekend at home. Wonder if the decreased volume of sets to her is because of her decreased efficiency or what exactly caused the noticeable change. She struggled tonight again.
I actually thought setting for the most part was ok. When it wasn't as good at times, we struggled.

Blyashov Harvey was negative for the match. Not often do you see that. And, I mean, the same setter propelled Blyashov to a .436 hitting average. Maybe she's just struggling setting the oppo position. Hard to believe that was it last season or two seasons ago when we played Duke we dominated them so thoroughly that I thought we were playing against a high school team. Four sets, and two of the ones we won went beyond 25 points.

While I think the coaching staff have identified things to work from this game, I think we shouldn't attribute the difference in score from 2025 to this year solely on Stanford's performance.
As they say the other side gets a vote, and these aren't your 2025 Blue Devils. Last year, Duke visited Maples in the middle of a 14 game losing streak that lasted till the end of the year. Everyone else was beating Duke like they were high schoolers.
This year, they have a new head coach and an outside hitter transfer from Purdue, and they are getting much better results than last year. They are 5-4 in ACC and 13-6 overall so far, compared to their 2025 record of 2-18 in ACC and 5-26 overall.
So I think it's a combination of Stanford having things to improve on, plus much improved opposition.

What do we even work on in practice? We don't get any better. This team looks worse than opening weekend. And yes I know all about Sayer being out. It would not matter in most of these matches we get absolutely thumped in.
We are likely looking at another 0-3 noncompetitive sweep.
I'm all for Blyashov coming back for next season. She is our best player. But is Kurt and Harvey coming back for another season going to make us more competitive? I hope our incoming freshman push these upperclassman and I hope Tessa Larkin is starting on day.
We were what preseason (top 4) team in the country and right now should not be ranked.

I think Matt Squeri made the point in football, but I think it probably applies across all sports; by the time the season starts, performance is probably going to be baked in. You pretty much are what you have out there plus whatever you were able to figure out over the offseason, and over decades of watching across multiple sports, I think with a few exceptions (the biggest of which is when we switched from a 6-2 to a 5-1 in one of our championship seasons) this is largely true. Every once in a while, something clicks, or you find a solution to a glaring problem, by benching a player that has really been struggling and bringing in a high ceiling freshman who proves she is readier than you thought. But most of the time, these are the exceptions that I think prove the rule.
UNC is a ranked team, we are playing on the road, and we are not a top-10 team. I hope we do better than an 0-3 non-competitive sweep, but that is going to be a possibility against any decent team on the road and against any good team anywhere. I wish we were better, but we aren't.

Much better effort set 2. We actually showed a little bit of fight and grit.
Can we keep the momentum in set 3?
Just happy we avoided the sweep.
