You will never hear me criticize Sabean and his team. He was a master at dealing prospects for big league talent. He wasn’t perfect but he was damn good. As you noted, he brought SF three parades after a lifetime of waiting for some of us.

Behind the paywall, but how can you not agree after watching the last month. Crawford doesn't look like his old self, and may be hurt. Estrada should be playing 95% of games at second. Donnie can make the easy play but not the more difficult on a regular basis. Longoria was a golden glover more than several years ago. Flores is "a gamer", (one of the silliest terms in sports) at 1st base, but they need Belt, and let Flores be main DH. He is best hitter right now.

Then my apology. I inferred what you did not imply….. And yes, that is how he used the farm system. Caught up to him last couple. But darn it was fun while it lasted!!

According to a comment to the Baggerly article, Estrada dead last among qualifying 2B (-9) in defensive runs saved. Surprised the heck out of me.

Doesn't sound right re Estrada. Maybe some failures early in the season? I think he had a couple of drops completing DPs early on but don't recall problems in last five weeks. Does that measurement consider things we wouldn't necessarily see?

I’ll let Phogge speak for himself. But this isnt a deposition…..
As for my take, 106 to play. It’s a little early to bury anybody. The Giants have had a rough stretch. To say the least. And I’ve been on the pessimistic side since spring. But let’s see what happens when Belt and Wade come back.
Giants do have the misfortune of playing in the NLs toughest division. Which makes their road harder. So, if I had to bet, I’d bet against them being a WC. Course, I don’t bet often. And when I do, I usually lose.
If they are in hunt at deadline, there will be moves made to strengthen the roster. No reason to jump ship.

Read today that Giant are “main threat” to Yankees in signing Aaron Judge. Let’s assume he’s not resigning and is an FA. What I don’t want to see is indications that the Giants are “in the sweepstakes”. Unless they actually sign him. They will know going in it’s going to take a ton of money. The excuses for not signing him will be the usual - he will be 31, back end isn’t good, ballpark etc. Thing is, they will know all that going in. And that they may have to pay a premium due to the park factor (although Judge would be coming home. And grew up a Giants fan.)
My point is simple - if they decide to pursue him, they need to be “ all in.” Commit to whatever it takes. Otherwise, don’t pursue him in the first place.

Aaron Judge turned down a 7-year contract for $215M from the Yankees. Judge reportedly wanted 10 years and $360M. He now leads MLB in every meaningful production category for a hitter and is outperforming the Yankees offer.
The same reporter who said the Yankees see the Giants as the biggest threat to sign Judge, says the Angels are recruiting him.
I simply don't buy the Giants being serious about Judge. There is no evidence to suggest the Giants are prepared to win a bidding war for the best players in MLB. But I have full confidence in their ability to come in second.

Of course, he will use his status as a FA to leverage NY into his financial comfort zone. However, I don’t see him seriously considering offers from other teams. He is a Yankee and will remain so.

We're not even in July and you have given up. So yeah, I disagree with you about 100%. Maybe 99.99999 %. The great thing about baseball is that even if you're 22 games out you can still beat anybody else in MLB. So you can have a compelling game while forgetting about the big picture. Imagine Vandy beating Bama? But the Orioles are capable of beating the Dodgers.
Also if all you are interested in is the WS or the playoffs in my book you may be a fan of a team you're not a fan of baseball. Watching a compelling regular season game is just as important to me as watching a WS game. But of course I played college baseball and very high semipro so I'm probably prejudiced.
We can continue to argue. I love a rhubarb.

Can’t find an analytic reason but the Dodgers, albeit with the best personnel in baseball, don’t seem as dominant this season. Just a feeling.
Of course the Giants old men continue to stumble onto the IL list as Junis actually fell off the mound and Longoria disappeared down the dugout tunnel. Plus Wade had a setback during a baserunning drill.
Pretty soon we may see Austin Dean and David Villar up if only because six or seven players have been admitted to Assisted Living homes.

Muncy, Justin Turner, Bellinger not hitting. I’m hoping it stays that way. Pitching wise Buehler has not thrown particularly well. Maybe some arm issues?
Offensively Betts, Trea Turner (I’d pay a LOT of money to get him) Freeman carrying the team.
Pitching -Tony Gonsolin and Tyler Anderson have been their best starters.
The Dodgers have so much talent that they can have several of their stars underperforming and still be playing nearly .640.
Nice win last night. But you are right about the injuries. All hamstrings. I never had to worry about pulling a hamstring. The way I was built I didn’t have any.
…. Giants seem to be having a ton of issues with muscle pulls.
You left out La Stella - back tightness. I’m trying to figure out his value if he can only DH.
Villar has been hammering the ball for the last 1 1/3. Yet, he’s not on the 40. Don’t know why. Perhaps he’s related to Dr. Strangeglove…..
