Mays was similar. He hit lots of triples in large ballparks (e.g., 35 in the Polo Grounds, 19 at the 'Stick, 13 at Forbes Field). OF, you need to google Randy Elliott.    Seriously, Ramos is definitely a key piece of the Giants’ future but he will probably spend this year playing in Richmond and/or Sacramento.

Randy Elliott.  I think he hit about .450 that spring.  About .220 in the regular season. Then gone.

Big difference is Ramos is a top prospect and 21.  Still, I suspect you are right.  He will play most of the year in Richmond and/or Sac.  He, maybe more than any other Giant prospect, suffered from no minor leagues last year. 450- 500 plate appearances at AA would have made a difference.

I am hoping he makes the Giants decision on him coming North a little difficult.  Giants are very short on right handed hitting outfielders. Particularly with Slater hurt.  Again. He just can’t stay on the field.  It must be very frustrating for him.  

On the negative side prospect wise, Luciano is struggling.  To say the least. He is having a hard time making contact.  But he’s 19.  He may be at SJ this year.  I think they still have SJ as their High A affiliate.

Edit:  SJ is now low-A. High A is In Eugene.

Luciano - San Jose with a bump to Eugene and maybe Richmond.  Quite frankly, I think following the Giants minor league teams will be a lot of fun this summer.  Kinda like when Posey, Crawford and Bum played together in San Jose many years ago...

Bobby Cox was the manager; sorry I forgot we did it recently.  He was ejected 162 times (exactly one regular season worth of ejections).  The next highest was JOhn McGraw at 121.  Weaver had a paltry 96.

If a home run hitter passes a baserunner it's no longer a home run.

The play that is the subject of the question is one of the strangest in MLB history. Bengie Molina hit a ball that was ruled in play and he held at first base. He was then replaced by a pinch runner, but the umpires did a video review and ruled that the ball was actually a home run. However, they ruled that the pinch runner substitution could not be undone, so the pinch runner circled the bases and was credited with a run scored. Molina was still credited with a home run but not with a run scored, the only time that has happened in history I believe. I don't remember it, but there have been numerous articles written about this unusual sequence over the years.

I know it wasn't a home run. Anybody else listening to Russ and Lon that night as they kept talking about the Haddix game. For a bunch of years MLB listed Haddix as having pitched a 12 inning perfect game and then abruptly changed the rules. Jim Maloney lost a no hitter that way.

How did Babe Ruth figure in a game that was once called perfect by MLB and then taken away?

Answers to my questions:

First 30/30/30/20 is Jimmy Rollins.
Floyd (Bill) Bevens lost his no hitter in the ‘47 WS to a Cookie Lavegetto double over Tommie Heinrich’s head in Ebbets Field. Bevens had given up eleven walks including to the two hitters who were replaced by pinch runners Eddie Miksis and Al Gionfriddo. Gionfriddo two days earlier had robbed JoeD at the fence in deep center at Yankee Stadium.

More on Ruth later.

BOBBBBBBBB... what future Los Angeles Angel (PCL) gave up Dimaggio’s blast to the faraway corner of the Stadium? I know that you must have seen him pitch in Seals Stadium.

Home run without scoring? Bengie Molina. Hit a shot of the top of the wall and was stuck at first base, then replaced by pinch runner Emmanuel Burriss. Upon further replay review, Molina's shot was instead a home run, but since he had already been replaced, Burriss rounded the bases instead of Molina. . . .
