I was not, I got the nickname from a friend in high school who was into hip hop. Not sure why I kept it. Pretty much every other people who uses it (there aren't many, but enough) is an aspiring rapper though.

I met with a colleague yesterday that attended the game. His children went to Valor Christian.  He was with CMacs parents and they all knew that Mills was coming back from an injury.  He told me that even though he was rusty, it was obvious that Mills was the best athlete on the field.  His athleticism and decision making were above everyone else and that his receivers were dropping too many catchable balls.  This, coming from a VC fan.  He also said that CMac is very different in body type from his brothers - more compact and powerful versus tall and thin like his Dad.

MOST undergrads still not on campus. But hard-core Band members and early frosh will be there, as will other undergrads helping with frosh orientation.  I agree it's not the same as Big Game weekend, but it's not like giving away free tickets to Paly students to fill empty seats. (or do they do that??? I have no idea...) :P

Every time I see a reference to returning to visit Stanford "in January" I assume the reference is likely to the Big Visit of admitted and committed players.  Particularly if a player has already visited the campus multiple times. (If the player has never been on campus, perhaps it is just timing and convenience.)  If Sarrell is admitted, I will be shocked if he doesn't commit.

It did take the first few minutes of 1Q to get that full, but given that that's just with grad/summer students I agree it was a good turnout for them.

Summer school ended mid Aug.  whatever I was shocked at how full.  if I didn't post this a school can't give free tix to HS students.  Sell them discounted yes

PhD students are pretty much there all the time whether classes are in session or not. So could be some of them. In my day we were unconscious about football, even though Elway was the QB, but I bet there's a lot more awareness now.

C/o 2016 here. Was in the front row with a bunch of '16 buddies and some friends who are still students. Having the "Young Alumni Red Zone" option for tickets was very helpful for filling up the student section this time around. It'll only be better for USC; lots of people moving in early, International Student Orientation has already started (I think) and they'll all want to go to an American football game, etc.

I contend that the game took an entire quarter to (adequately) fill up because it took place at 6pm on a workday.

I'm sure the football recruiters are well experienced on how to deal with parents/players who visit and expect to see worship at the altar of football. Betwen showing off the beautiful campus, talking up the 40 year decision, and spinning the lower hype atmosphere as a positive for student-athlete quality of life, if the parents/players are dead set on choosing a school where they'll be worshipped and get laid because of their position on the team, welp, time to move on to plan B. Hopefully the ones visiting for this game will see the bigger picture. If they don't, perhaps it's best they go to 'SC or FSU to live out the dream.

As the parent of a former FSU football player, I'm wondering if I missed out on something.

As I typed that, I considered adding a team besides 'SC and knew that chances were someone would take umbrage. The reason it came to mind was when Winston was in the news for his "indiscretions", Stanford fans considered whether we had dodged a bullet by him not choosing Stanford and some stated a belief that his behavior could in part be chalked up to environment. Aside from Winston's apparent belief that he was not beholden to the laws of mortal men, I have a vague memory of some other incidents involving FSU players.

Fair point, it was an awful time for a game, and that probably hurt.  I usually take Alma to Palm to El Camino, knowing that the delay getting onto Palm and under the train tracks is worth it for approaching my parking lot directly.  But 6pm on a Friday was very slow.  It doesn't help the two lights within 20 feet of each other are completely uncoordinated.

The Young Alumni section is in 240, isn't it?  Or are people getting tickets for there and sneaking into the main student section?  (Not complaining if they are, I stuck around for a few years after as I had some friends still finishing PhDs.)
