Re: Class of 2014 - PrinceLightfoot - 08-28-2013

Performance on a high school football field is difficult to measure because the competition in most cases is suspect. Runs like that are more common than we know but the reason it makes national TV is because the person doing the running happens to be the 2nd ranked best player in this recruiting class.

Impressive run? Sure looks like it. Worthy of comparison to Sanders as some tweets and reporters suggest? No way - he did that against D-1 college and NFL opponents.

How impressive? No clue since I know the runner is at the top of D-1 calibur recruits while the opposing defense probably doesn't have one player who will see a D-3 field. I must excuse myself now to do an impressive 100 continuous dumbell curls using a 2.5lb weight.

When my brothers and I played football in our neighborhood growing up, this commercial was the model for bad tackling.

Hey if the WRs and TEs don't pan out, Bloomgren can run this play so that Hogan can throw the ball and catch it too.  Take that, Gisselle!

Alfieri shows off his running ability:

Re: Class of 2014 - JohnR34231 - 08-31-2013

A little reminiscent of Toby Gerhart. Maybe we have a two way player here.

(No more comments on tackling).

Re: Class of 2014 - DC - 08-31-2013

Of course the defense wasn't very good at tackling.

Re: Class of 2014 - JohnR34231 - 08-31-2013

Considering they are one of the top ranked teams in Oregon, you'd have to assume they are at least fairly good at tackling.

Re: Class of 2014-Pickett picks UCLA - Bruce Wang - 09-04-2013

4* Adarius Pickett, who Stanford offered, has committed to UCLA.  I don't think he was that interested in us.  What's interesting is that the 247 pundits across the board had predicted $outhernCal.  Yet another sign that UCLA has eclipsed $C for the time being.

Re: Class of 2014 - PrinceLightfoot - 09-06-2013

Recruiting targets Terrence Alexander, Garrett Dickerson & Kurt Holuba play tonight on 7pm ET on Fox Sport 1

Re: Class of 2014 - AthleticsDynasty - 09-06-2013

So how did Holuba and Dickerson do?

Re: Class of 2014 - BigEasyCard - 09-07-2013

Didn't attend the game here in New Orleans, which Alexander's team won 24-13. Alexander had two interceptions. No mention of Holuba or Dickerson.

Here's the write-up:

Those CardBoarders who view the article will note an action shot of a fourth person of interest in the first picture (wearing number 1).  Did not post picture due to copyright concerns.  Perhaps Garvin can advise on this issue?

17 hours and 21 minutes until kickoff!  Geaux Cardinal!

Re: Class of 2014 - BigEasyCard - 09-07-2013

Found this article which provides a play-by-play commentary of the game between John Curtis and Bergen Catholic:

http://blog.northjersey.com/varsityaces/25642/football-john-curtis-7-bergen-catholic-0-1111-left-in-1st/

Holuba had a sack.  Dickerson had several receptions, but also had a pass off his hands which Alexander intercepted.  Dickerson's sack on the next series forced a field goal attempt which was no good.

Too bad they probably won't play together for Stanford, as most predict Alexander will commit to Ole Miss.

Kickoff in 16 hours 33 minutes!

Geaux Cardinal!

Re: Class of 2014 - rudruff - 09-07-2013

Caught a couple minutes before I took the kids to the pool.

Holuba and Dickerson were both playing 2-ways. Holuba was the LT on offense, Dickerson was a TE. On D, they were on either edge. Looked like Holuba would put his hand on the ground a bit more.

Couldn't tell you about Alexander because his team didn't have names on their jerseys and its hard to pay attention to the audio when you are trying to put a swimsuit on a hyperactive 4 year old.

Re: Class of 2014 - JohnR34231 - 09-08-2013

It was one Stanford recruit against another Stanford recruit as Bingham, Utah outlasted Colorado Valor Christian 24-21 in OT last nite. Christian McCaffrey ran for 230 yards and scored two TD's, but he did have an unfortunate fumble that Bingham recovered for a TD. Dalton Schultz had one TD catch (shortly after he had dropped another one for a TD). Judging from the last two games, they don't appear to throw to him a lot.

P.S. In other interstate action featuring Stanford recruits, Joey Alfieri's Jesuit team ventured into Washington on Friday, only to get blown right back over the Columbia River Bridge 47-14 by Camas, a team from a small town outside of Vancouver. Alfieri did score one touchdown and gained nearly 7 yards a carry on 9 carries, which begs the question of why he didn't get the ball more. He was probably winded from chasing the Camas offense all over the field.

Pretty impressive win by the number 1 ranked football program in Washington against the number 1 football program in Oregon.

Camas is right up there, but no one is ranked higher than Bellevue HS (David DeCastro's alma mater). They have become the De La Salle of Washington football (and actually beat De La Salle in an interstate matchup a few years ago). To show you just how dominant they are they played the #3 ranked team in Washington last week (Camas is #2). Final score 45-7.

Re: Class of 2014 - Treefence - 09-11-2013

Per @StanfordRivals Andy Drukarev

Nifae Lealao to announce tomorrow (Thursday) his commitment.  Everything I've been reading has said he's leaning strongly to Stanford, including the most recent crystal ball prediction by 247 sports.  He's a 4 star defensive end, and a top 100 prospect.  This would be another big get, if he commits to the farm...

the radio show is being taped tomorrow but won't air until Friday so technically he's announcing on Friday. Pretty bizarre IMO.

Re: Class of 2014 - OutsiderFan - 09-12-2013

Well, a Rivals story this week on uncommitted Rivals 250 locks to commit to certain schools had Lealao to Stanford first on the list.  Dalton Shultz to Stanford was also in the Top 10.

We should watch.
