There's a lot of good info if you can learn to distinguish between contributors (and remain disciplined about not trusting loudmouths). At one point multiple contributors became adamant that one of the defensive linemen was never going to play a snap, and it would be just a matter of time before being removed from the roster. Well, he's still on the roster and, unless another player took his number, saw action against Oregon St.

Want to own up real quick; I think one of those posts was by me. Said defensive lineman was standing in the student section a few rows below me in the middle of the $C game, so I thought he was off the team. Happy to have been wrong about it.

Omg, now I feel bad. It's not as if I had any thought that somebody on the Cardboard would see this and comment as you did. I guess I have to remember I'm a fan like anybody else and react in similar ways to others. And it's not as if the player in question is lighting it up. Not everybody on the d-line will factor in next year. The more the better though.

I wasn't referring to you Bob. I probably should have kept my mouth shut. Nothing good to say, don't say anything...

I knew what you meant.  If you stick around here long enough you quickly figure out who knows stuff and who is just idly speculating, and you adjust what they say accordingly.

Actually I was pretty sure Chicago wasn't referring to Bob, but since he quoted Bob, a reader could have thought he was. I wanted to clear that up, but I probably could have found a better way to approach it in my post.

2 star on Scout. A Gardner or just a warm body?

2 star rating, 3 star offer list (Stanford, Oklahoma State, Utah, Louisville, both Arizona schools, Oregon State, and a bunch of G5). Was also first team all-state in Colorado at DLine (!!!).

Even if he's a warm body, who cares? At least we'll be able to have full 11-on-11 scrimmages this coming summer.

RE: Class of 2019 - slide - 11-23-2018

I like his film at DT as well.  on TOS, some C comparisons are to Chaffin

RE: Class of 2019 - CardinalSagehen - 11-24-2018

Regarding Nugent, the Cardinal Sports Report had the following to say:
Quote:Nugent watched Christian McCaffrey dominate Colorado prep football and then make college football look like a lot of fun on The Farm.

Nugent now gets to follow the same path to help clear the way for the next H.eisman runner-up running back at Stanford.

The dropping of the “runner-up” reference comes out of the blue because the rest of the article is business-like. I guess they were trying to be funny here?!

Who cares? Well, I think we should. Hopefully this guy turns out to be a good player for us, but if our recruiting program has been reduced to taking "warm bodies" it is a sure recipe for mediocrity (or worse) in the future.

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 11-24-2018

Nugent is a 3 star on Rivals.  Not an overwhelming offer list, but the kid seems to be an exceptionally hard worker with a great passion for football.  That goes a long way for linemen on either side of the ball.

Wonder if he's related to Ted?

Great!  2nd win of Big Game Week over Cal.  Women's Volleyball kicked the week off right with the win on Saturday.

Cheers,

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 11-28-2018

The difference between the reactions to this news on the Cal Rivals board and this one is stark to say the least. Cal fans are disconsolate and demonstrating passion about it and Stanford fans seemingly shrug their shoulders. Maybe if he had flipped to Cal from Stanford the reaction here would be stronger, but I kind of doubt it.

Anyway, Archer is one of the more interesting recruits I've ever seen. His Junior highlight video, my reaction is, "sure he's big, strong and skilled, but if he wants to follow in the footsteps of Stanford NFL TEs, he needs to get faster."  Then I watched his Senior highlights just posted yesterday, and I literally wondered if I was watching the same guy from the Junior video.  Archer seemingly transformed his body between Junior and Senior year and did become a lot faster. Judging from the disparity between his Junior and Senior highlight videos, I have to think he is going to get a ratings bump, perhaps even from 3 to 4 stars, because he was absolutely a 3 star his Junior year, but I saw 4 star in his Senior video. Looks like much more than a Plan B type to me.

Cal fans are rightfully upset right now and Stanford fans should be stoked to land Bradley Archer after missing on Hudson Henry.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 11-28-2018

We fans are stoked. More so after your post reviewing Archer’s so thanks for your thoughts and review.

There is a saying if accepted they will come. So many of us were hoping for acceptance then boom he did commit.
