We were taught to make a quick step towards first if a ball was hit to the right side regardless. Pick a point about eight to ten feet before the bag and hit it and run up the line. You have a better idea where the bag is so you can concentrate on the flip if necessary and you never cross the baseline thus preventing a collision. Familia broke slowly and the took his eye off the ball. He was a mess on the mound.

Lex and others were correct. Giants are too old and too prone to injury. Still can do damage in the post season or deal Rodon for prospects in July. But please Farhan no more Fairchild’s and Papierski’s.

The last MiLB game I attended was the Hartford Yard Goats vs. Richmond Squirrels three years ago. There was a pitch clock in that AA game. I hardly noticed it, but loved the pace of play.  One of the reasons I like Logan Webb is how fast he pitches. Rodon is the same.  The relievers tend to be the ones who slow things down a lot. But even they aren't exempt from the pitch clock.

Pitch Clock and Electronic Strike Zone, with more balls in play and Baseball will start growing in the younger demo again.

Stanford Blood Center is having a drawing among June blood donors for 8 winners of a pair of tickets to premium seats behind home plate for the Giants. Two pair will be from each of 4 games (Brewers, Cubs, Pirates, Pirates).

My grandson, now 11 and already 5’2”, had Velcro tied shoes for years. Suggest that the Phils order some.

John Madden said that fat guys tied their shoes off center because it was hard to bend totally over. Looked like Familia had the same problem. Perhaps he needs to wear loafer spikes.

The pitch clock coming to MLB next year is a certainty, and it will be glorious. It's been a big success in the minors and concerns about possible injuries haven't materialized. Some batters have complained but pitchers have embraced it. Major development for the game.

They are making a lot of noise. Don’t think much carry’s over to MLB. But it sure seems like everyone is having fun.

The WC race is probably going to be Pads, SF, Mil/St.L, Braves, Philly (least likely). The problem the Giants have is the NL West is much tougher. Central get 57 games vs Cin, Chi and Pitt. Whichever team doesn’t win that division is likely to be WC. East - a little better. But if Phillies continue to suck, it makes the Braves life much easier. 57 with Philly, Miami and the hapless Nats.

Further, the deadline will weaken teams like Cin, Pitt etc. Hopefully Arizona starts to drop and sells. Giants play them a lot post deadline. Colorado is already sinking.

Still 38 vs Dodgers and Pads. Much tougher schedule than Braves or Mil/St.L

Add the fact that the Pads are going to get Tatis back, Clevinger is just starting to round into shape and Snell looms on the horizon and it’s not a pretty picture.

The NL Wild card looks like a lock for Padres and Cardinals. The last spot will come down to Giants and Braves.

I doubt the Braves will be making a slew of trades like they did last year because they probably don't have the prospects needed to do so, and even if they did, they don't want to deplete their system. The Giants may have the prospects, but I don't think they are nearly as close as the Braves were last year to justify trading prospects to what, lose to the Brewers in round 1?

If the Giants fall out of it, I can see Joc Pedersen and Carlos Rodon being HOT commodities.

Agree with your take.  Unfortunately, Braves have the better team.  They just got off to a poor start.  Braves spent big in offseason.  Added to an already good team.  

If Giants are sellers(things will have to go very badly for that to happen) it will be a bleak second half of the season.  But if it does happen, maybe we will see some pressure applied to ownership to stop being CHEAP. And a realization that stars matter.
