Five players hold the record for most consecutive walks with seven.  Four are either Giants or A's.  Who are they?

Barry Bonds has to be in that group (heck, they we’re probably all intentional)….

You're right, Barry was one of them.  And four of his seven walks were intentional.  The other three include two sluggers and a leadoff man who led the league in walks three times, career .410 OBP.

Non-Giant was Billy Rogell of the Tigers, August 1938.  Rogell was an average starter, good eye, rarely struck out, but never exceeded 86 walks in a season.

The A's player was Jose Canseco, 7 straight walks in August, 1992.

The remaining Giants were Eddie Stanky, August 1950 and Mel Ott, June 1943.  Ott didn't fight in WWII, he was in his 30s, he had a wife and two daughters, and he worked in a shipyard during the off season.

2022 Beijing, no?  Eileen Gu is a future Stanford student, but she’s not one yet, and won’t be a Stanford athlete, and I believe she’s the only one with a Stanford connection to medal.

The Giants’ Greg Minton held the record at one time many, many years ago.  I don’t know if he is still the record holder.

The record is from the dead all era, but Minton’s 269 1/3 inning without a HR allowed between June 1, 1979 and May 1, 1982 is the modern era record.

I'm a San Jose Giants fan.  They've existed since 1942 in one form or another, always as a member of the class A California League except for two seasons when they were in the PCL (1977 and 1978, I think).  They've been a Giants affiliate since 1988, but have also been affiliated over the years with the A's, Royals, Red Sox, Expos, Indians, Angels and Mariners.

They've produced one Hall of Famer (George Brett) and 29 MLB All Stars.  Here's my question...not really a trivia question, and I don't know the answer, but does anyone know how many Stanford alums have played for the San Jose team over the years?  I know Austin Slater played for them in 2015, but I'd be curious if anyone has compiled the list.

Walter Johnson had 369 innings but the leader is the famous Ed Killian with 1001 innings.

Walter Johnson had 369 innings but the leader is the famous Ed Killian with 1001 innings.

"Twilight" Ed Killian.  Statistically speaking, toughest pitcher off of which to hit a home run.  Decades before Marichal vs. Spahn, Killian pitched into the twilight against Cy Young for 14 scoreless innings only for the Red Sox to score a run in the 15th.  Won 20 games a few times, best WAR in the league in 1907 (better than his teammate Cobb's).  As a pitcher that year, he batted .320 when the league batting average was .247.

When I was a kid I stumbled upon a book called "A Year in the Minors" which was basically a diary of a season following the San Jose Bees when they were a Royals affiliate in 1973. First baseball book I ever read. Dennis Leonard and Jamie Quirk were players on that team who went on to have MLB careers. I remembered the book and a few years ago bought a used copy on Amazon since it was out of print, and enjoyed it again. One of the players on the team was Rod Boone (son of Ray, brother of Bob, uncle of Aaron and Bret) who had been Stanford's MVP in 1971, reached AAA but not the majors. He has been a very successful businessman. That's all I've got, though.

My first season in little league was the 1972 season, and the Bees had a day where the players taught the kids.  That season's Bees had a lot of players with long major league careers, including John Wathan, Frank White, Al Cowens and the Bees' only Hall of Famer, a 19-year old George Brett.  They also had a pretty good 20-year old pitcher who later got traded to the Giants named Greg Minton.  All on the same A-ball team.
