Yep, Ken McAlister, played for the 49ers in '83. Also played for Seattle and Kansas City.

Another interesting factoid; Sharman's last major league game was the final game of the playoff series against the Giants, which ended in a rather famous home run.

I'd remark that this was a tough way to end an unremarkable career, but, Sharman had an impressive basketball career as both a player and coach.

Good one BC. Sharman is one of the few in the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and coach.

Trivia name the other three named as both a player and coach in the Hall of Fame ?

McAlister was a Prep AA LB at Oakland HS but chose to play basketball at USF from 78-82. Was a starter along with guys like Quintin Dailey and Wallace Bryant. Silky smooth athlete who was a Combo G. With no NBA future, he bulked up to around 240 and gave the NFL a shot. Lasted for a few years.

Paul Giel. Was 11-9, 5.38. Minnesota Single Wing tailback. Finished second to Johnny Lattner 1953 Highsmann. For those kids out there college teams gradually changed to the T after Stanford dazzled the country with Frankie Albert taking snaps from under center in 1940. The single wing usually had a tailback taking snaps similar to the Shotgun but in a squatting position. He was a runner and passer. Next to the TB was a fullback who blocked and ran taking handoffs from the TB and at times receiving the snap. A wingback was offset from the line and set up behind an end. He caught passes, blocked and a couple of times a game ran a reverse. Next to the WB was the signal caller usually called a blocking back and and listed as a QB. Not involved in passing or running. The system rarely used flankers and most of the time ran an unbalanced line with the QB and wingback on the power side. UCLA employed power better than most leading to games like the 72-0 drubbing of Stanford in 1954. By the early 60’s the only teams running the single wing were Princeton and Lenoir Rhyne.

Yup didn't peek.  I would have thought that was obvious, given how colossally incorrect I was on the other answers... ;)

BTW, here's an interesting bit of double-Stanford trivia.  I don't know if any of you are Jeopardy fans, but my cousin -- who was Coach Marquess's manager when he was at Stanford -- was on Jeopardy Friday night and answered 23 questions correctly, none incorrectly.  He'll be on Monday night again.
