247 has a new premium story on Caleb Kelly having a front runner, but I'm not a subscriber.  He's OV'd Stanford, Ole Miss, and will be going to Berkeley this weekend.

You'd have to think Stanford is his favorite, but if he can't get in due to test scores or grades, the seemingly best option would be ןɐɔ.  Ole Miss isn't exactly ןɐɔ or Stanford's academic peer, and Ole Miss is in for some rough times ahead due to the Hugh Freeze disaster.  Also don't think Matt Luke is long for that job. Would make a lot of sense to sign up for the upward trending Wilcox program if Stanford denies him admission.

Maybe Kelly will sign up for the upward trending Wilcox program even after being admitted to Stanford?  Because Kelly has been reported as admitted, and he is still planning his Berkeley visit this weekend.

When is the last time a Stanford admit went on an OV to Berkeley? Might Shaw and company be a little nervous that Wilcox may beat Stanford for a coveted, admitted recruit at a key position?

I would guess that Shaw hopes every Stanford recruit takes an OV to Berkeley.  The UCB tour is oddly obsessed with Stanford.  Hard to imagine any D1 recruit would elect to sign with UCB after that "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" style tour.
[/quote]

You think football recruits take the same tour as Joe Shmo? I suspect the athletes get a customized tour. Still, it would be interesting to hear how heavily they reference Stanford even among those tours.

Why wouldn't you take a free trip to Berkeley to be "wined and dined"?  A great experience for an 18 year old.

Re: Class of 2018 - Phogge - 01-25-2018

More like whined and dined.

Good one!

Re: Class of 2018 - martyup - 01-25-2018

That's funny.  "All I hear all day long is how great Stanford is at this and how wonderful Stanford is at that. Stanford, Stanford, Stanford."

Re: Class of 2018 - BobK - 02-01-2018

In 2018 we have 13 signed including the 2 returned by from missions
Waiting for 4 Mangum-Farrar committed but accepted postvDec signing

Leaving
McKee.  Going on a mission
Kelly
Hollifield

Re: Class of 2018 - Spiny_Norman - 02-01-2018

This tweet says that Hollifield is having a hard time deciding.

https://twitter.com/SWiltfong247/status/958907930711154688

UNC is applying full court press to keep him in state. They just offered a scholarship to Hollifield's younger brother, a TE in the class of 2021.

Re: Class of 2018 - OutsiderFan - 02-01-2018

How does Stanford reciprocate in the recruiting one-upmanship at play here?  If he's having a difficult time deciding between three relatively local programs, Stanford sure would seem to be the best option to rid him of the pressure to sign with the local schools.  Plus, he did do all the work to be admitted to Stanford.

Class of 2019 (and later) threads are on a different board.

As you can see, I already added Stingley's tweet.

Re: Class of 2018 - BigEasyCard - 02-01-2018

Per this article on Derek Stingley Jr.'s decommitment from LSU, he has 3.8 GPA and his parents are heavily involved in his decision-making.

Having four Louisiana players on the roster can help as well.  We only need to beat out 22 other schools. :)

FWIW for most offers he says "blessed" but for us it's "extremely blessed".

If only he'd said "phenomenally blessed" we would clearly know he was following the code.
