Tony LaRussa is my second least liked manager of my lifetime. Tommy Lasorda, of course, is No1. Wonder why he felt the need to weigh in. Was he asked. Or, just doing his usual stir the pot BS.

I noticed Kapler was in the dugout hand over heart when God Bless America was sung before the 7th

I think he was asked. The article quotes a couple other managers as well, so I have a feeling that reporters asked a bunch of managers for comment.

People would get curious why the manager of a MLB team wasn't present. He didn't want ongoing speculation or rumors. So he made a quick post explaining the reason. Short and sweet.

I thought the same thing at the time, that surely there is a pitcher who is a fast runner, but I assume they didn't want to deal with any injury risk.

Plus, it has to be a starting pitcher - Webb, Junis, Rodon were available (no way they use the next days starter ). None strike me as burners!

Rodon doubtful but I would actually bet on Webb and Junis outsprinting Casali. But Bart is surprisingly fast for a big man, it wasn't crazy to use him.

Bart is the fifth fastest catcher in baseball. But an average runner overall.

Kapler wasn't seeking attention. His post was made for the reason I said, so when people wondered where he was for the anthem playing, they would know. He posted on his personal website, not the Giants' website.

One could say "look at all the attention he is getting over his decision." But there is a profound difference between other people making a big deal about something and you making a big deal about it yourself. "But he should know he will get attention by taking his action and making his statement." So he's suppose to be held hostage by a segment of society that puts pressure on him to do something he doesn't want to do, just because a relative few people might be bothered if he doesn't?

Here's an idea. Mind your own business. Don't worry about what others are doing that doesn't personally harm you. The only time we ask people to do things that might be against their will is when they are in the greater interest of society write large, and protect people from being harmed. NOBODY is being harmed if a manager of a baseball team isn't present for a song being sung.

Kapler made a statement. He could have simply done his protest silently. By making a point of it, he is sure to draw reaction. Personally, I do think he made a “big deal out of it.” In fact he weighed in again yesterday saying he “might” suspend it for Memorial Day.

In todays world, no question he’d draw responses. Positive and negative. Social media is nothing if not prolific. And judgmental.

Once again, only “issue” with it for me was whether this would be a distraction for his team. I’m thinking at this point, probably not. But time will tell.

Great protest by Kap but he didn’t need to defend himself. A force for change and god almighty do we need change right now.

Nice win today. What do they do with Bart? He is a backup catcher at this point. If that is where the Giants brass sees him (and I think it may be) than it’s fine as is. If, otoh, they believe he has the potential to be an MLB starting catcher, they should send him down to Sac and let him play nearly everyday. It’s not helping him playing one out of three - and getting pinch hit for late in those games he does play.
