RE: WBB: Women's Basketball Updated Recruiting 2019-2023, November 13 - 81alum - 11-16-2019

In another thread it was mentioned that Latasha Lattimore was spotted visiting.  Rather than respond in that extraneous thread, I do so here under recruiting.

Does she remind anyone a little of Val Whiting?  In build and movement?  Of course, none of us remember, I am sure, what Val would have looked like as a sophomore in high school!

Lattimore would be a wonderful addition to the 2021 class, which now seems to have 5 slots.  At 6'4" she is the tallest player in the top 20 (no. 11.)  These highlight are (I think) from her sophomore year.  Keep in mind she is now starting her junior year in high school.  That is a crucial year for academics, APs, early SATs, as well as a very important year for basketball development.  So often we get our hearts set on players at this stage (remember Laeticia Amihere--another wonderful Canadian) without really knowing how likely it is that they can get into Stanford.  But the fact that the coaches are interested enough to have her out for a visit means that this is within the realm of plausibility.

In these highlights you can see lots of shot blocking as well as some back to the basket moves to go along with all the normal layups.  I am sure her defense has captured Tara's  attention.  She is not only 6'4" but seems long--she must have an enormous wingspan, and obviously has her timing perfected for shot blocking at the high school level.

Lattimore, by the way, became famous for her dunks at the age of 13.  Since Belibi will be coming into her prime by that point, it would be possible that we could wind up with two different players dunking in the same game!

Thanks 81
A recent video of Brink showed her dunking with ease

So we could reach the 2 dunks from two players in a game threshold even before the 2021 class arrives!  Do I hear 3?

That point guard (#23) looks pretty good too.

Here is some video of Clarice

And a couple of glimpses here, although the highlights do not mainly feature her (24):

Here is a story that is a year and a half old from when she was a freshman.  She was a 6'4" 14 year old:

Last year, as a sophomore, she gathered a number of "player of the week" awards and contributed a few double-doubles for her team.  Her skills seem to be developing.

Really excited about the possibility of Akunwafo.  We really need a big strong defensive post and she seems to fit the bill perfectly.  We have a number of highly skilled 4's who can score (Jones, Brink, Demetre) but may not be able to defend a big strong post player like say Kalani Brown or Teaira McCowan.

Lattimore eliminated Stanford from contention.

Oh well

When a player lists Cal but not Stanford, it was not meant to be and time to move on!

Kiki visited the weekend of October 19th. She's a really athletic forward: https://twitter.com/egbhoops/status/1200184116177592320?s=20

Thanks for the update. If I didn’t post Miles has also visited. I need to update our list

RE: WBB: Women's Basketball Updated Recruiting 2019-2023, November 13 - 2006alum - 12-02-2019

Miles, in particular, would be a brobdingnagian recruiting coup, because we'll really need a top flight PG once Williams graduates. It's possible that could be van Gytenbeek, but her recruiting rankings and lack of participation in U16/17/18 type international tournaments suggests she's not yet there.

On the other hand we were on Jana early for a reason. Still great to have so many top visitors.

I dream of having two Kiki’s on the team together.

You hope that this is good insight by the staff and an oversight by the committees who select the teams.

Watching video of Van Gytenbeek she reminds me of Van Lith - imho she will do well at Stanford

Tara said she thought Van Gytenbeek was the best PG in the 2020 class.  This class is heavy in great PG's including Bueckers (#1), Clark (#4) and Andrews (#7).  Even if Tara meant one of the best or on the same level as the other highly-ranked PG's then we are getting a very very good player.
