Quote:Otherwise, Sunderland is the top guy in the country as was pointed out. I was surprised that McPeak was pretty content free considering her obvious credentials.

It was not McPeak.  The Louisville match was called by Paul Sunderlund and Jenn Hoffman.

Jennifer Hoffman?  Louisville Volleyball grad and all-american?  I think she also was a Louisville assistant coach for a couple of years before becoming an analyst at ESPN.  She's got the background but might be a bit biased.

My comments, and querty's comment I quoted, were about the Louisville match announcers.

No, no, no, no --- my comments were about the Cal announcers.  I was praising the Louisville announcers. Sorry, I thought I made that juxtaposition pretty clear in my post.

The ones for the Cal match hardly ever named the hitters and blockers involved in the points.

Announcers for women's volleyball are likely difficult to find.  The situation gets even worse with the imminent demise of the Pac-12.  Announcers are looking for other jobs.  The best get snapped up first.  Maybe listen to KZSU.

Ha ha I just got spoiled watching the Louisville match. Announcers were very knowledgeable but never forgot their primary job is to describe the action, which usually involves specific players. The ones from the Cal match were knowledgeable, but never really good at identifying people, which didn’t help on a small laptop screen.

LOL you’ll never convince me that a radio broadcast of volleyball will ever be better than watching live video.

Turn down the volume on the screen. Watch the game, listen to the livestream. Downside: video and audio will be out of sync.

Yeah, kind of like when my ancient TV and Firestick conspire to get the subtitles out of sync on Netflix or Prime.  It got so bad I just threw away the Firestick and now cast directly from my phone or laptop to my Chromecast. "Cutting the cord" does have its consequences.

Yes it was.  Playing or coaching at a high level doesn't necessarily make one a good analyst for a live match.  I don't know what her experience is with broadcasting. I wasn't really commenting about Hoffman, just that it wasn't McPeak, who is really good as a broadcast analyst.

I've never heard the word "touch" so often in one broadcast. A tip was a "touch over the block." A block touch was a touch (legit use of the word, of course). I think a dig, pass, or set was a "touch" at times too.

yes you did, which is why I quoted in my post, and was referencing, only your praise of the Louisville announcers. BobK's reply to my post suggested he thought I was talking about the Cal announcers, which you have now picked up on. I watched the Louisville match and agreed with your comment about its announcers. Sorry about the confusion.

Peace everyone. I think folks were clear enough. I am just getting old and apparently my memory sucks when commenting across 2 matches. I Couldn’t remember who was who.

1. Sunderland great
2. Woman color on the Louisville match was mediocre
3. Cal announcers were bad

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 09-24-2023

Stanford at Colorado today 11:00 am PT.  After watching the Colorado/Utah match I believe Colorado is capable of beating Stanford.  I expect a close match.  Key for Cardinal IMO is everyone minimizes unforced mistakes.

Weather in Boulder this weekend sunny, temp near 80.  Better to travel to Boulder in September than November.  I believe this is the only game scheduled with Colorado this season.

Massey gives us an 89% chance to win.  We are rated #4 and Colorado #32 FWIW.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-24-2023

15-11 Stanford.
Francis has her right hand wrapped finger problem it appears. However she had a great kill so no problem

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-24-2023

Stanford up 2-0. 20, 21

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-24-2023

Stanford wins 3-0.  LSt set 25-20

Kipp 18 kills 379.  Francis 11 kills 562
Stanford with 2 as in Two service errors. Stanford with 13 blocks.  That’s a lot of blocks in just three sets

Correction. 6 aces 8 service errors for a minus 2.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 09-24-2023

The announcers for the Colorado match were pretty good.  They were prepared.  The only negative for me was the hyperbole about Stanford players.   I like positive comments about Stanford players but not to the point where I know fans of other teams would find it annoying.

I hope the improved connection between Miner and the MBs continues.  It will help the pins' offense.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - M T - 09-24-2023

Announcers good????  The woman talked over the plays with anything but commentary on what was happening on the floor.  But maybe she changed her tune late as I had turned off the sound.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-24-2023

I agree with Palo Alto. The announcers were good

Speaking of Sami ... check out her hairdo from the Louisville match.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - CompSci87 - 09-24-2023

The female color announcer had a lot to say. Occasionally it was not relevant to the ongoing action, but other times it was very interesting and educational to me.

Stanford #3 in AVCA poll.

The guy was the play-by-play announcer.  The woman was the color commentator.   She was knowledgeable about volleyball and the players.  Her topics of comments were vb, strategy/rules of vb, and the players.  She stayed on topic.

Unofficial NCAA RPI.  Stanford #3.
