There really wasn't, but if there was any doubt in my mind where he was going, it was resolved when I saw him make a nice catch in the Army AA Game, and then proceed to spin the ball and punt it (drawing a 15 yard penalty).
Very U$C like behavior. He'll fit right in.

For sure.  I know he's not bound by anything he signs this cycle because of the mission, but the fact of acceptance, coupled with a Stanford commitment if he makes one, gives me some hope he'll stick to it and come here in 2020. 

I've been assuming the pull to BYU (one of his other favorites) wouldn't be as strong since he's not from Utah, but I don't know how reasonable that assumption is.  If he's grown up as one of a handful LDS kids at his school rather than being surrounded by LDS kids, I'm hoping he'll be comfortable with the percentage of LDS students both at Stanford generally, and on the football team in particular.  I have no idea how many LDS kids play at the other schools he's considering, but our team has certainly done well in recruiting kids that are either from Utah, are LDS, or both.

From what I've read, McKee won't be signing a LOI anywhere, choosing instead to do so two years from now. It's also interesting to note that he's devout enough to have never played on a Sunday, even when various passing league championship games have been that day. He sits out. Who knows what this means for his eventual decision between Stanford and BYU, but I thought I'd offer it as another tea leaf to consider.

The first time I read about Nick Robinson was in an article published in one of the official LDS magazines. It was all about how his spiritual side helped his sports and vice versa. It didn't say anything about Stanford, of course, but it stuck with me. He also had refused to play in any Sunday tournaments, leagues, camps, etc. I'm pretty sure Mark Madsen was the same in high school. But that didn't stop either of them from competing in college. Every BYU football players of course needs to decide if they are willing to break that standard if they choose to go to the NFL. I can't recall any recent stories of top BYU players who decided not to go to the NFL because of the Sunday play issue.

On a side note, I played in an MBA basketball tournament about 10 years ago. We felt pretty good about our chances going in, primarily because we were anchored by none other than former Stanford player, Mark Seaton (a really good guy, btw). Of course, we should have realized former NCAA stars are a dime a dozen at HBS, who matched our height easily with former Duke player Matt Christensen (who was a bit of a star for Duke, at least relative to Mark's role player status for Stanford). Christensen is Mormon and it turned out he was only playing the 1st day of the tournament so he could avoid playing on Sunday, even though he played that regularly in college. So I think these rules are fluid. for different players, at different times of their careers.

In the article I read McKee mentioned that while he doesn't play on Sundays now, he definitely would in the NFL. He said that the expectation is that you observe that day when possible, but it's okay to pursue your career, whether it's the NFL or some other job that necessitates work on a Sunday.

Also, your IM basketball story reminds me of when Madsen was back at the biz school and led his IM team to the championship. Imagine showing up for your IM game and lining up across from a 6'8" former NBA player. Not ideal.

while I was an undergrad Bill Walton was in the law school and played IM basketball for the law school team, my recollection was he didn't play until the playoffs.........

His thoughts: "Hey, I don't need the NFL at all! I can play one more season with my friends, enough to climb atop all the record lists and win the Hyseman, then I can stick around for Stanford Medical School and lead the Med School flag football team to four-straight IM championships!"
