Which brings to mind a question. As of the end of the 2024 NFL season, seven teams in NFL history have gone from last place to the Super Bowl in the following season. Five of those seven won the Super Bowl. Those seven teams represent five NFL Divisions.

Which seven teams were they?

I think that the Cincinnati Bungals have done it twice, losing in the SB both times....

It was the Bengals in 2021, lost the SB. Went 4-11-1, then 10-7.

NFC South was the New Orleans Saints in 2009. They actually had a decent record the year before, finishing last in the division with 8-8, then went 13-3 and won the Super Bowl.

The other NFC West team was the 1999 Rams, went 4-12, then 13-3 the next year.

In 2001, the Patriots (AFC East) went 5-11, then 11-5, won the Super Bowl.

In 2003, the Panthers went 7-9, then 11-5. Lost the Super Bowl.

In 2017, the Eagles (NFC East) went 7-9, then 13-3, won the Super Bowl.

says the Bunglas also went "worst-Super Bowl" in 1981 and 1988, also losing both of those Super Bowls

That was a tough decade for the Jets and the Dolphins.  When was the last Jets playoff appearance?

I think it's been a good 15 years, back when Buddy was coach.

Apropos of nothing, I never really understood "Buddy" as a nickname for James David Ryan, a singularly unpleasant man.

On MLB history there are 6 switch hitters in the top 100 all time. Who?

Pete Rose, Mickey Mantle. Those are the only two non-Giants I can think of.

The Giants have had some great switchhitters; Frankie Frisch, George Davis, Chili Davis, Willie McGee.

That’s one The Mick

All 16 of the pre-expansion MLB teams have won a World Series.  Which team was the last one to do so?

The Baltimore Orioles?? (who were the hapless St. Louis Browns before moving in 1954)

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - Leftcoast - 06-03-2025

Have switch hitters Chipper Jones and/or Alomar been mentioned?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 06-03-2025

Not the Orioles, who finally won a WS in 1966.

BC

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BobK - 06-03-2025

Chipper Jones is one 4 to go. Top 100 lifetime HR switch hitters of all time

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025 - BostonCard - 06-03-2025

Eddie Murray

Gonna go with the Philadelphia Phillies

Couldn’t be the Cubs.  They won in 1908.

I think it is the Philadelphia Phillies.  Their overall pre-expansion era record was rather dismal.

Indeed the Phillies 1980 WS victory, their first, was the last by a pre-expansion team.

Sorry, you were the first to get it right, but your answer got buried.

BC

Another futility one.  There is only one team never to have won a pennant.  Who is the only MLB team never to have even appeared in the World Series?

Another four teams have appeared in a World Series, but never won it.  Who are they?

BC

Seattle has never played in a WS.
I believe the four that have played in a WS but have never won are:  San Diego, Colorado, Milwaukee and Tampa.

I would have guessed the Angels because I had successfully forgotten all about 2002.
