Awesome news. Stellar class! Not a surprise to anyone that’s followed her recruitment. UConn fans are just delusional in thinking they are the favorites for every recruit. Welcome to Stanford Lara! She’s primed to be a star and this recruiting class is elite.

I'm super excited with this news. I think she has potential to be our next star player. She is big and strong, but has good handles and can shoot.
Some highlights from last year:

Before SWAIN (#5 PN /#7 Blue Star /#9 ESPN) and SOMFAI (#2 ASGR /#16 ESPN),
when was the last recruiting class where Stanford was able to get
an elite 5-star PG and an elite 5-star PF/C?

So excited about this, not just because Somfai is highly ranked but because her game fits so perfectly with our current 5-out Princeton offense. That offense is designed to spread out the defense and prevent defenders from clogging the lane. In order to do that, all players need to be very versatile namely be a threat to shoot the three, drive and finish or drive and pass to a more open teammate. That offensive versatility is very much Somfai’s game.

All the cardboarders who have already posted, you say it all. Fantastic news! Now, let's have her have a terrific freshman year and love Stanford, and stick with us.

Wonderful news! Two other factors that may have benefited Stanford.
1. Somfai will be joining a team that already includes a fellow Aussie (Tess Heal)
2. Stanford's weather is similar to that of Sydney or Melbourne. Again, it speaks to Somfai's comfort level with the overall environment.
Yes, the future is bright. But let's enjoy the present too.

Stanford WBB Twitter has announced all 5 signings. Yay!
I've updated the first post of this thread, unpinned the thread, and started the
2026+ recruiting thread.

This is taken from an article ESPN just released this morning on 12 HS prospects they believe project the best from high school through college to the pros (
https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/42357887/12-best-womens-college-basketball-high-school-recruits-regardless-class-betts-davidson-hall).
Somfai is slotted in at #8:
"Standing at a long, broad 6-4, Somfai has the coordination of a perimeter player's handle and the strength of a post player inside. She has a nice touch out beyond the three-point line and the court vision to lead the break or create in the half court. Her face-up footwork is superb, and her deceleration and patience around the rim are already ready for the next level. Defensively, she can play in a multitude of systems and guard anyone on the floor. Playing in numerous FIBA competitions with Australia, Somfai has the basketball experience of a savvy veteran.
What can she add to her game?
Somfai must maintain consistency with her elevation on jump shots. She also must adjust her speed -- she occasionally rushes, particularly on perimeter actions."

for the first time in over 30 years, next year's roster will have 15 players who can ball big time. lauren green and stavi won't be back. unless someone transfers out, we will have (more or less - yes, some of the guards can play wing, and some of the wings can play 4).
guards: talana, jzanieh, chloe, tess, shay, hailee
wings: courtney, ashley, harper, carly
4/5 nunu, kennedy, alex, lara, nora
all of these players could start at most schools in the country. there will be little if any drop-off when the subs come in. at least 12 of the 15 are excellent 3-point shooters. we will have excellent guards and excellent bigs at the same time for a change.

The Somfai quote from the Stanford WBB signee press release:
"When I first got to Stanford, I felt like I arrived home. From the first moment, I was part of a family, a sisterhood, and that feeling is unlike anything I have ever felt. In my heart, I knew I wanted to come. I'm excited to be a part of something incredible, continue Tara's legacy, and build something special."
The Stanford sisterhood and culture is strong. It's a lot more than just wins and losses. Love to see it and so proud of our program.

Folks, this "ESPN's 12-best-womens-college-basketball-high-school-recruits-regardless-class"
to me is a monumental assertion of the BIG-TIME potential of Lara SOMFAI.
It suggests that ASGR's claim that Lara is the #2 overall recruit of the 2025 Class is somewhat legit,
and, in a way, implicitly discards her current ESPN 2025 Class #16 overall ranking and
instead replaces it with being ESPN's 2025 Class #4 overall recruit
(after BETTS, DAVIDSON and CHAVEZ, who are #1, #2 and #7 in this list)
Stanford is definitely getting a really SPECIAL player in Lara SOMFAI!
