It was nice to see the middles involved and productive. And we get the 3-0 win without looking stressed. Certainly not the drama of Louisville.

Well, Rubin was outstanding in the back row passing and digging the entire match. It almost seems like Rubin's hitting mistakes get into her head. Rubin's arm swing and hitting approach look solid; she just has phases where she misdirects the ball too often.

I don't believe Ipar Kurt has played at all this season. Is she being redshirted?

The announcers said Cal's Maggie Li talked to many PAC-12 schools. I wonder if she talked to Hambly. If Li got admitted to Cal, there's a reasonable chance she could have gotten admitted to Stanford. Maggie Li is from Beijing, China and played for China's U20 team last year.

I believe so. Freshmen Jordan HARVEY and Julia BLYASHOV
have played and are Hambly's choice subs for the pins.

Was wondering the same thing. Went to the chalk talk before Nebraska and Hambly said she was redshirting. Said when she plays we will see that she has a strong serve.

I didn't recognize those announcers. I've noticed some of the best PAC-12 VB announcers in the past are now working for other networks/conferences.

It seems Stanford WVB plays its best on the road in front of large, hostile crowds. This season the best examples are Texas (large student body attendance, pretty hostile) and Louisville. The two losses were at Maples. I don't think you are a jinx; it's other factors.

Stanford has a long term agreement with Nebraska for non-conference games. My preference would be to play all those matches at Nebraska before sellout crowds. It gets the team pumped up and the freshmen get to see what college volleyball atmosphere is like compared to playing at club tournaments in front of a dozen relatives and friends.

Also 3 out of the top 25.

There are three strong teams in the PAC-12 and the rest of the teams are unproven. Cal was unbeaten in non-conference but played a weak schedule. I looked at the non-conference schedule of Stanford's next opponent, Colorado. They are currently 8-3 but also played a relatively weak non-conference schedule.

When the NCAA RPI first comes out Stanford will probably be at its high-water mark for the season. Then it will be a gradual move downward due to the majority of teams in the PAC-12 not being that strong this year.

Today's NCAA unofficial RPI rankings. Stanford at #2. Nebraska at #3 because they played a weaker non-conference schedule leading up to the Stanford match.

The ones for the Cal match hardly ever named the hitters and blockers involved in the points.

Announcers for women's volleyball are likely difficult to find. The situation gets even worse with the imminent demise of the Pac-12. Announcers are looking for other jobs. The best get snapped up first. Maybe listen to KZSU.

Ha ha I just got spoiled watching the Louisville match. Announcers were very knowledgeable but never forgot their primary job is to describe the action, which usually involves specific players. The ones from the Cal match were knowledgeable, but never really good at identifying people, which didn’t help on a small laptop screen.

LOL you’ll never convince me that a radio broadcast of volleyball will ever be better than watching live video.

Paul Sunderland calls the NCAA championship semis and finals, he's called the Olympics and I would guess he's the top college announcer. The other one (Holly McPeak?) was fine but too many times her analysis basically consisted of "they need to try harder."

They were trying to keep people interested in a mismatch, but yeah you would have thought Cal was leading by 5 instead of losing by about the same most of the time.

Otherwise, Sunderland is the top guy in the country as was pointed out. I was surprised that McPeak was pretty content free considering her obvious credentials.

The Cal coach deserves credit for getting her team through non-conference undefeated. She and her primary AC are inexperienced coaches at the D1 level. Three weeks before fall camp the previous Cal HC suddenly quit, leaving Cal in a bind. Due to time constraints Cal had no choice other than to promote the existing, young staff. After this season I hope Cal does a proper search and brings in an experienced DI coach to lead Cal.

The announcers rarely called out the Cal players' names other than Maggie Li. It was not good.

NCAA DI tournament selection committee will reveal their current top 10 ranking for the post season tournament on Sunday during the Kentucky/Tennessee match on ESPN. Will Stanford be in the top 10?
