Unfortunately, Murray is at a major position of need for this class. We are ok for a bit, but will be in trouble in a couple years, especially if Little goes pro after his junior year.

Yeah, it seemed early for Admissions to have come back negative on Murray if his application had just been submitted, which is why I didn't think it was that. But as with any switch in apparent intensity of affection at this stage of the game, Admissions could certainly be a factor.Â
I can certainly imagine it being fun to live in Westwood and play for a Chip Kelly offense. And I can totally see how you might have connected with Bloomgren and don't have the same personal connection to the replacement coach. But. We're not exactly about to transition to a spread offense. Shaw's still running the show. This is still Stanford.Â
If Bloomgren leaving is enough to turn a kid sour on us before admissions even comes back? Man, that was never our kid to begin with. It's never over until Signing Day, so perhaps good news from Admissions turns him around even if he puts on a different-colored cap on Saturday, but I'll assume the folks covering the Army All-American Bowl who are rushing to change their predictions to UCLA are doing it based off more than just a hunch.Â
Bob, anything you can share as to why he was a long shot? Family connections to UCLA?

Sorry if this question has been answered recently, but if the class closes with Mangum-Farrar, Hollifield, and McKee (who won't count next year anyway), where does that put us in terms of total scholarship players, including Fehoko and Kaufusi? I assume we have room for NPF, Murray, and A-RSB if each of them were to be admitted and want to come, so am I right in assuming that we'll be a bit lighter in this class than we could be?

With Phillips and Schultz declaring for the draft we now have 17 openings
However we have 5 ? Who could leave or may well leave

Anyone know of any stealth/backup options that we should be keeping an eye on? Not asking you to divulge anything behind a paywall, of course, but I'm curious how hopeful I should be for happy fax machine surprises on Signing Day.Â

Am I safe to assume that Tucker is gone, Chryst and Reid are probably gone, Love is more likely than not to leave, and Meeks is about 50/50?
I would expect 4 out of 5 of them to be gone.

So that would make 21 openings, if 4 of those 5 depart?Â
We have eleven 2018 signees and two returning missionaries, so that's 8 spots to be claimed. If Mangum-Farrar comes, that's 7. Hollifield is probably next most likely, so if he comes, that's 6. Even if we sweep the remaining three, that still leaves three openings, no?Â
Sometimes it seems like there is a surfeit of "our" guys in a given high school year, and other years, they're few and far between. This year feels a bit like the latter, particularly on the OL/DL front. Â

I'd expect we'll have a couple of grad transfers come in- ideally on the D-Line or at RB.

??? not sure what your assumption's based on - AFAIK, the last we had was Brennan Scarlett, who graduated 2 years ago and I can't even remember the last grad transfer before him....

ASB announces today. He was quoted in the last few days as saying that while academics are important to him, football is just as important if not more because he wants to play in the NFL.
Which makes me think he is going to U$C. Hope I'm wrong.

How hard would it be for the recruiting experts to ask guys supposedly considering Stanford, if they have submitted a Stanford application? Seriously. Why should anyone be able to claim someone as a finalist when by definition they don't have the option even if they claim to want it?

Question 1: Not very. I'm guessing they don't because either a) they don't understand themselves about the Stanford requirements or b) if they do they don't want to put the guy on the spot.
Question 2: They are signaling that they are a smart guy to whom academics are very important and they are considering a very prestigious school.

Stanford doesn't feature its WR's. The kid sees Agholor, JuJu and Woods succeeding in the NFL. More power to him and thank God that the Irish and Stanford don't have to contend with another Ball family.

Yeah, Pac-12 defenses are going to have fun trying to deal with the JT Daniels to ASB connection. The only upside is both are chomping at the bit to get to the NFL so they won't be around any longer than they have to.

Does this include the three who retired and the transfer to Utah? Also, as I think someone says below, there are a few who may not be offered a 5th year. It seems not enough schollies have been offered this year.
