Yes and no. I believe the controlling interest has changed since 2014. And I know that Greg Johnson is now the lead dog. My concern is that he has a different “philosophy”.

The “control person” has changed over the years (Magowan, Neukom, Baer, Johnson the Younger) but the investor group that owns the team hasn’t changed significantly since the sale of the shares once owned by the heirs of Sue Burns (the largest share holder until her death in 2009). That sale occurred in 2011 when Charles Johnson became the club’s largest shareholder.

Yep. I believe Johnson bought Burns share. But however it’s sliced, it appears to me the group has become more, to be kind, “thrifty.” I’ll stop now on this (at least till the deadline nears) as I think I’ve beaten this dead horse….

Ike fought it with what he had and your thesis, if correct, doesn't matter. He won.
At various times he had Churchill, DeGaulle, Monty, Patton, Uncle Joe salivating for a second front as adversaries. Marshall knew what he was getting when he picked Ike and FDR knew what he was doing when Marshall wanted to lead the invasion.
I bet there are a number of people in the front office who would give Soto the money. Hope they don't.

If you aren't spending up to the luxury tax, you aren't trying hard enough on the free agent side of the equation. The only exception is if you have a young core you need to pay for as they grow out of their team control years.
The Giants have no such players on their roster. Even if Luciano started in 2023, the Giants would have him under control for 6 years. There is no denying the Giants aren't spending enough to win. It might not be that bad if they were in say the NL Central. But they aren't. They are in the NL West, playing 38 games against the Dodgers and Padres, who are both over the luxury tax, and both ahead of them in the standings.
The Dodgers and Padres are spending a combined $200M more than the Giants on payroll in 2022. It's unforgivable for the Giants to be so behind.

Yeah, we have beaten this one to death. No big deal. Time to move on to a topic I think we agree upon.
At the 2022 quarter pole, I think it is safe to say that Keith Law of the The Athletic was correct when, prior to the 2018 MLB draft, he wrote that Bart would struggle making contact at the big league level.
You can’t miss when you have the #2 selection in the draft and I am beginning to believe SF blew that choice.

Nobody is safe except for Webb, possibly Doval. Need prospects who are ready in '23.

Beg to differ. Belt, Yaz, Crawford will get hot at some point. We are already seeing tons of players going down. Giants may not be able to bring AAA talent but Farhan has a sharp eye.

Rodon, if healthy and continuing to deal, would get a good return. (Maybe Bret Brady and Matt Allen?) Even as a rental. Put him in Mets rotation with a healthy DeGrom and a healthy Scherzer.
Mets are in win now mode. Cohen doesn’t care what he spends. In addition, I suspect he could work an extension.

22-18 overall. 89 game win rate. Better record on the road than at home. 4-6 in their last 10 games. #10 in MLB in OPS, #10 in fielding percentage, #10 in DPs, but #4 in runs scored. But #24 in ERA and #25 in WHIP.
Hope they pick it up.

The Pitching was great in April. It's been atrocious in May. I don't even need to look at the stats to know this. It's so obvious just paying attention to the scores this month. But, for the record, the Giants were #3 in MLB with a 2.87 team ERA in April. They are dead last at #30 with a ghastly 5.39 ERA in May, They've fallen 22 spots in MLB Team ERA 22 days, one for each of the 22 days days of the month so far.
Teams are hitting...
.386 vs. DeSclafani
.303 vs. Wood
.286 vs. Cobb
.258 vs. Webb
.216 vs. Rodon
No starter has a sub 3 ERA and only two are sub 4. Only two under 4, Webb (6) and Rodon (5), have pitched a quality start. The Giants now have a worse team ERA than the freaking Texas Rangers.

Slater just can’t stay healthy. And his injuries seem to occur when he gets going offensively.
