No, not disappointed at all. That was a big-time get for us, and cements Stanford as tight end U. Hooper had himself a great spring game, and we are going to be loaded at that position for some time.
This has started out as an epic recruiting year. Peak, Costello and Smith, plus a couple guys that are likely silent commits.... I haven't been this excited about a class since the 2012 class. And this one could be better.

Last week I posted how this class had the feeling of being special; perhaps one of the best (on paper) in Stanford history. Since then, TE Kaden Smith committed and Hulk is calling ATH/OLB Curtis Robinson to Stanford tomorrow. It looks like OT Clark Yarbrough and OLB Keith Sims are Stanford locks, and so too does it seem WR Simi Fehoko and DT Garrett Rand are too The Cal Rivals writer believes Stanford leads for DB Treyjohn Butler, and WR Dylan Crawford looks likely given his relationship with Costello. All the guys mentioned here are 4 star recruits with the exception of Fehoko. WR Josh Imatorbhebhe, also a 4 star (with offers from every major program in the land) also seems likely to be Farm-bound. Hard to imagine a Georgia kid taking three trips to Stanford and not wanting to go there. I can't ever remember so many top end recruits being so interested in Stanford in April before.
It's looking like a Top 10 class is very possible, especially if Costello and Smith get a 5th star each, as has been speculated might be the case.

Top-10 could be possible, if we have a large enough class. (Of course it has been argued that we will have a large class this year.)Â
But I think in our case, with the frequency with which we take smaller classes (due to students staying on through graduation, and seldom losing players to either transfers, legal issues, or leaving prematurely for the NFL), a top-10 in average star rating is more important. As long as we end up with that, I think I would be satisfied even if we ended up ranked in the mid-teens. Given our success at retaining and developing players, the bounty from a class of, say, 20 top recruits, could be fantastic. (Even if our overall ranking is a tad low because we don't haul in a full 25 players).
Is there a consensus out there on about how large we can expect this class to be?

We have room for a max class of 25, IIRC. But typically we never fill out our allotted scholarship total anyway, and I wouldn't mind holding over a few to balance out the class sizes (the class of 2013 was only...13 players.)

Smith's commitment is giant news. This guy is going to be a monster. His highlight video shows him lining up all over the field. Split wide, tight end, and in the backfield. Tremendous athlete.Â

I believe both Fehoko and Sione Hemuli-Lund are likely to take missions. They have both stated in interviews that their faith is important to them, but didn't find any concrete statement that they were mission bound.

This 2016 train is rolling!
Probably the most athletic LB in the state of California. He is an incredible pass rusher and good on coverage.

Feel sorry for the poor bastard UCLA fan who paid for Rivals premium to read the UCLA premium story on Robinson's commitment decision as it related to the Bruins last night - LOL
Epic class in the making it would seem.

A comment from an ND forum as a result of Robinson's commitment made me chuckle.

Become used to it, Irish! You have had one relevant but very suspect year in the last 20+.

Not that it really matters, but 247sports did not do its homework re: Mr. Robinson.
April 10:

(For those who don't want to click on the link:
Quote:The Crystal Ball reads 80-percent for USC and 20-percent for Notre Dame.
But a visit to the "Crystal Ball" on Monday revealed 70% Stanford, 30% U$C. The predictions started flipping on Sunday around 8:30 am.
On the other hand, ESPN has yet to give CR a grade or stars rating.
Thank goodness we have Hulk!

Yup, I would agree with that assumption given Nygel's academic profile. Here is an article that provides more background info.

247sports has one Crystal Ball prediction--it just came in tonight--for Nygel Edmonds: Ohio State.
So I like our chances!
