17-14
Nerds win in OT with a fabulous field goal!

Cardinal            10
U Spoiled C      27
Sark sissy fits    3
Pat Haden visits 0

I have very little confidence in our offense.  The defense can only be stout for so long.

I have a vision of 4 tight ends packed in tight, 3 to one side, one to the other with Cajuste out wide. Power and counter runs from this formation 3 times for modest gains, ...

If we have 4 tight ends and Cajuste in the formation, who is carrying the ball on these Power and Counter runs?

As Fullmetal said I have visions of Hogan on a couple and a couple of Wildcats.

For a lot of reasons, this is going to be a very tough game to call. I don't read BR very often, but see below, which is just based on the facts.

"Stanford returned 13 starters this season, including senior quarterback Kevin Hogan (34 career starts) and four along the offensive line...the Cardinal are 5-1-1 ATS as underdogs under head coach David Shaw, and 2-0 both SU and ATS when getting 10 points or more, thanks to back-to-back upsets of Oregon when it was ranked No. 1 and No. 2 back in 2012-13...

Southern Cal is 2-0 both SU and ATS on this young season...USC returned 14 starters this season, including Kessler...the entire offensive line and seven on defense."

Similar number of starters returning led by senior QBs, close games over the last number of years, and in my view, similar levels of talent. USC is playing at home, but we have better coaching and have in my view had a tougher schedule this year by virtue of playing our first game at Northwestern. I say we win 24 to 20.

24-21 with a lot of long plays on both sides

Interesting factoids.

Whomever locked up Shaw & Bloomgren at halftime on Saturday refuses to let them out until Sark goes into rehab, the PartyInTheBackfield 4.0 has its way with an undermanned & overmatched Trojan OL, and the Mad Russian does his best Andre Heidari and silences the crowd at the gun.

LOVE IT,  Who is the Mad Russian?  My bad for not knowing.

I'm counting on my nearly unbroken record of being wrong while prognosticating.  Hopefully, the scores are reversed.

Nothing that has happened on the field supports this thought, but I'm going with it anyway.

Stanford 34, Troy 31.

I would abstain rather than pick against us.
So:  Stanford 27 - SC 24.

I'll be there drunken yelling our guys to victory!

Cheers,

Sark - two martinis at the half.  Haden - needs to be taunted heavily for retaining a bozo and for whining in general.

I really hope Hogan brings some leadership along with his A game.  If we go down big, then I hope Chryst sees the field.

Re: So, no one has the Valls? U$€. prediction Thread? - pcgoode - 09-17-2015

Just looked at USC's first two opponents from a statistical POV.  Arkansas State, their first opponent, has an FPI number of 83, but still managed to get just over 200 yards rushing and just under 200 yards passing against the Trojans.  They also sacked Kessler five times.  USC's second opponent, Idaho, has an FPI of 126.  Idaho has won a grand total of one game in each season in the last three years.  I for one have no idea how good USC will or won't be this year based on the sample of their opponents to date.

FWIW, Stanford's two opponents, NW and UCF, have FPI's of 45 and 86, respectively.

Re: So, no one has the Valls? U$€. prediction Thread? - czaja - 09-17-2015

24 USC
21 Stanford

I wished I trusted our offense more, but I suspect that they don't score enough & don't do enough to keep our D off the field and/or in good defensive positions to net us a W.

Re: So, no one has the Valls? U$€. prediction Thread? - BostonCard - 09-17-2015

The ESPN experts all pick USC to win, as follows:

Kyle
Bonagura 28-21
Kevin
Gemmell 17-14
Chantel
Jennings 35-17
David
Lombardi 27-17
Ted
Miller 31-20

The betting line has a 10 point spread and an over/under of 50, which predicts USC winning 30-20.  The spread seems reasonable, but I would bet the under.
