Re: Today in our attrition - socalstanfan1 - 08-17-2015

Echoing some the other comments on this thread: Stanford is not FSU.  Stanford football's brand (to use a term I'm getting tired of, but which seems appropriate here) is based on the idea of tough Nerds who are basically upstanding kids, and a program that is run clean.  We are kind of the anti-Oregon, anti-U.S.C., in this regard, suspending Shayne Skov for an offense (drunken golf cart driving) that would not even get noticed at a lot of other places.  I have no idea what Rector's offense was, but not offering real discipline for a serious offense would, I think, really call that Nerd-nation image into question.

I'm not sure if the coaches and administrators think of things in exactly these terms, but I think they should

We need to restrict access to golf carts, clearly.  I think we should implement background checks and initiate training classes for those who choose to use these dangerous vehicles.  A strict prohibition would probably not be successful.  If you make golf carts illegal, only criminals will have golf carts.  Something must be done.

Don't forget golf carts don't kill people; people kill people.

Shanye was in his car. Not a cart. Motor on but parked.

Well, parked cars with the motor running actually can kill people.

Yes, socal got Shayne and JJ mixed up. Not surprising given the close resemblance.  :P

Re: Today in our attrition - Jskass - 08-17-2015

think it was that the cops were involved with JJ -- just glad we don't have to infer that Tara has tougher (golf cart/car) standards than Shaw (Rehashing a particularly painful WBB thread re: admissions)!

thinking this suspension is not a big deal:

I don't want to make light of a serious situation but...man it would be good to see the video of a chase with a golf cart.

And my bad, obviously, on misrepresenting Shayne's offense.  I'd love to come up with some kind of Sarkisian-themed retort to explain my mistake, but I just can't right now.  I think I've hit Sarkisian-exhaustion.
