Considering Wilner averages about 5 comments per article, I think I'll consider marketing advice from other sources.

I cringe when I see Stanford fans mocking another program for low attendance. People in glass houses, and all that. I've personally shrugged off any mockery of how empty our stands can be with a comment like "my support of Stanford athletics has nothing to do with popularity, if you want to follow a team with a big bandwagon, root for the Ducks." Attendance numbers at Stanford games does nothing to impact my enjoyment of the game. Sure, a big crowd would be nice for the players and probably create a great atmosphere, but on the other hand, I hate lines.

Well, don't cringe too much - Redrum - 08-07-2015

Vandy averaged 34,258 fans per game in 2014.  Stanford 47,862.  And, yes, there is that pesky tickets-sold-vs-butts-in-seats thing but Vandy has the same problem.  It's the cousin of the old "at least we're not Mississippi" excuse one used to hear whenever an embarrassing statistic on income, health, education was compared between states.  As long as somebody else is slower, weaker, stupider, poorer...all's right with the world.  And, my critique was the lousy choice of picture.  I know for some games the traveling visiting team's fans can make Vandy's stadium look like a happenin' place to watch a game.  Take a picture of that. Don't use a pic that looks like a high school game.

In any context, "we don't need your permission" sounds terrible.  It screams of disrespect for others.

That's not how I interpret it at all.  I look at it as "We know we're not a premier, 'name brand' program but we're going to be good anyway.  We're going to disrupt the status quo.  You may not like it, but we don't care."  At the end of the day it's all just marketing, but that's what it said to me.

That's a better slogan.  Maybe they can use that one.

They also stole "the home of intellectual brutality" from Stanford for a while.

After finishing 3-9 winning against FCS teams Carleston Southern, Old Dominion, and FBS newcomer UMass, one can argue the season was especially brutal for the Commodore fanbase. They did steal the slogan, but changed the meaning.

Maybe the slogan referred to watching Stanford film.
