You may be right if all we do is sit on this bboard and whine about it. Or you can make your voice heard to Muir - whether he pays attention or not, you may think twice. When I wrote to him after the 2012-13 season telling him I was not renewing my MBB season tickets he called me and we had a 20+-minute conversation. In the end we agreed to disagree about Dawkins (I think I have been proven right :D), but that a D1 AD took that amount of time to call one person whose financial contribution to Stanford Athletics that year was less than $5K (8 football + 2 basketball + buck/cardinal) gave me an indication that he does at least hear you when you speak up, even if he doesn't listen.
I think if he heard it from enough people he might listen.
I will post my letter to him when I send it after the season (mercifully) ends.

It's great to hear that level of engagement from the AD. As a non season ticket holder living on the East Coast, I perhaps won't get the same attention, but I will send a note to Muir.

I tend to agree that Muir is more a part of the problem than of the solution.

If that is the case, then the person to petition is Etchemendy.

I'm not in a petitioning state of mind, yet. Occasional moaning suits me fine just now.

My sense is that money gets his attention. If you said that you are considering reducing or eliminating any donations you may make to Buck/Cardinal that would grab his attention.
My understanding is that this is what got Leland to fire He Who Must Not Be Named. So many alums and season ticket holders told him that they would not renew their tickets and they would reduce or eliminate giving to Buck/Cardinal that he had no choice.

Right, well, a lot of good that did us (in the short-term)*. The real question is, do you have faith in Muir? Given his previous reluctance to fire Dawkins, I'm not psyched about him leading a coaching search.
* (I mean, obviously, "let's fire a terrible coach and replace him with a coach delivering the worst season in school history so we can replace him with an all-time great coach" is not a sustainable strategy.)

Muir's job goes well beyond MBB. How have his other coaching decisions panned out? What other big decisions has he made? I don't have the answers to those questions, but I will not judge him solely based on whether he keeps Dawkins or not. However, it does indicate the extent to which he will tolerate mediocre results and fan apathy and would cause me to question whether he really gets Stanford and whether he's the right person for the job.

I would think that "willingness to fire a coach" and "ability to hire a good coach" are pretty orthogonal skills. It is certainly possible that someone could be overly patient with a coach before showing him (or her) the door, but nails the subsequent coaching hire. Conversely, it is easy to envision someone who has a quick trigger for firing coaches, and then screws up the subsequent search (I am thinking, for example, of the late Al Davis). Indeed, having patience may help land a better coach because he can be sold on the fact that he won't have to worry about being fired at the drop of a hat.

I agree but I think Muir has been patient with Dawkins already.
I can easily see this team finishing with five straight losses.
