Why is Muir incompetent? Several conversations of course maybe I'm a poor judge of character, but given my life doubt it. Or was that just a continuation of the inmates? :)
While the timing is a bit off, but my note here:
Women's Swimming Coach:Â Unbelievalbely great hire, Just before Muir officially arrived.
Men's Soccer Coach: same as Swimming
T&F/XC Coach Muir hired worked with him before seems a great hire
Softball Coach:Â The mess before this hire and Admissions ruined the 2015 class, but the Hire seems very good. Of course Hansen's first game is in Feb and the pitching in place and the 2014 class before she arrived.Â

Maybe Alvarez really didn't like Wisconsin's 59-0 loss in the conference championship game and pushed Andersen out.
The conspiracy theory over there in cheeseland is that Anderson was unhappy that Alvarez instructed him to throw the game in such a way that gave the B1G the best opportunity to put a team in the playoffs.

It worked.

I have a good connection to some Stanford coaches in sports other than football. They give Muir very good reviews.Â
Their only issue is not with Muir and his minions--and there must still be some field mice left there still--but with Arrilaga's influence.Â

Yeah, that darn Arrilaga! The only thing worse than having a strong-minded, activist donor who puts his money where his mouth is would be NOT HAVING such a booster. I hope the coaches can get over it. There's worse positions to find yourself in - Just ask the coaches at C.al.

It's funny the way both site's DNA was set years ago and has self-replicated as Stanford football eras come and go.

I dunno, I would like to think of the Cardboard as more *reasonable* than the Bootleg. My last peek at the hoops board -- a while ago, before this season started -- was shockingly sunny on the subject of Johnny Dawkins.

Having missed the Third Punic War, aka Cardboard vs Bootleg, and having never read or participated on the Bbotleg, it amuses me that the animosity lingers to this day. I mean, come on! We don't, as a rule, still hate the Bristish, right? Or the Germans, Japanese or pirates of Tripoli (well . . . . ) right? I mean, can't we all just get along?

Speaking for myself, I don't have any particular animosity toward the Bootleg. I just don't find participating in orgies of negativism enjoyable, particularly when I don't feel they are justified and you have to pay to do it.

In being succinct regarding the concerns about John, I went too far, and the subject deserves more context.Â
These coaches are thrilled to have so generous a booster. But their view--and I have no idea if it's a majority view--is that JA
's gifts come with conditions that some of them find bizarre. (Dining tables in the coaches' homes, as one odd example.)
The second concern is that the department is heavily populated with JA chums who, because of JA's influence, cannot be fired. And we needn't look far to see where this lack of skill has manifested itself.Â

He helped build a couple new frat houses during my time at Stanford and IIRC some of the brothers were, ah, befuddled.

I'm curious about this, because there are lots of places where I think Stanford's athletics office doesn't do a spectacular job but they're mostly minor. Is there anything specific you're thinking of?

I was told that when the first Arrillaga rec center was built, he insisted that there be no showers downstairs with the weight room. I think "befuddled" is a good word here.

This really is an example of Murphy's Golden Rule:

Well, on the subject of excellent hires... - Redrum - 12-13-2014
Auburn hired Will Muschamp, recently fired as Florida's head coach, as its new DC. That's a hire that is worth a whispered "Wow'. Muschamp is one of college football's best DCs and Gus Malzahn is one of college football's best offensive football minds. Alabama beat Auburn this year, gaining scoring (passing) momentum as the first half progressed and pulling away decisively in the second half. Part of that was Alabama playing much better defense, but they controlled the ball more and more in the second half. Malzahn really can think and act decisively. Nationally ranked #2 at the end of last season, #4 in the SEC West Div. and nationally #20 this year, he figured he had reason. Of course, he, like many SEC schools, has the budget to do it.

It wasn't a water table thing, was it? And if that's the rec center right across from Ford, that place isn't well-ventilated at all--it sometimes feels like a shower in there. (Well, it did the last time I was there, years ago.)

I heard it was a concern about extra-curricular activities going on in the showers.

Wow. That raises all kinds of questions... off the top, I'm wondering whether they were worried about the students or the staff...??
