Chop block again

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - washingtonismoney - 09-27-2014

SC game all over again in the first half. Dominated the opponent, doesn't show on the scoreboard. Hoping this team isn't snakebit.

At least this one was an actual chop block.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - BostonCard - 09-27-2014

The announcers were making the point that the refs were told not to whistle too soon and let the play "play out".  It's not a bad idea, if forward progress is reviewable.  But if it's not then you run the risk of seeing what happened, where the refs swallow the whistle to let it play out, but then they can't review it if the play should have been ruled dead.

If Hogan has even a semi-decent half, this is a blow-out. Just staring down receivers, missing receivers, no opportunities for yards after catch - he was lucky not to have a couple of interceptions.

And of course, the refs haven't helped. Ugh!

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - TrumpCard - 09-27-2014

Is the UW punter that fantastic or is Stanford failing to adjust appropriately to UW's strategy?  Seems to me that having Ty and C-Mac back their together would prevent the brobdingnagian rolls in UW's favor.

Why didn't the refs in the 2012 ND game get this message?

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - Rally - 09-27-2014

Relax.  Second half features Sherman's pick six, Baldwin's miracle catch in the corner and Gaffney eating clock.  Easy.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - wbond - 09-27-2014

It looked like knees were down, as well, before the ball actually came out.  Hard to watch.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - OutsiderFan - 09-27-2014

Why does everything on offense have to be slow and so often predictable?  Even Hogan looks deliberate and indecisive.  Where is Rector?  McCaffrey in for one play.  Stanford's athletes are neutralized by the general play design in too many cases, and there are just too many guys playing that nobody gets in a rhythm.

Trojan comes in, it's a short pass to him.  Sanders comes in, it's a run or a screen to him.  So many parallels to the Niners offense.  Both are excruciating to watch.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - TrumpCard - 09-27-2014

Looks like Wright is the primary back and Shaw has particular plays that he wants to run for Sanders (shovel pass, screen pass), Young (jet sweep), Ty (wildcat, end around).  I hope the personnel packages don't tip off opposing defenses too much as the season progresses.

Edit: OutsiderFan beat me to it.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - dabigv13 - 09-27-2014

Everything should be reviewable. What good reason is there for that not to be reviewable?

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - needle - 09-27-2014

C-Mac needs a couple more touches this half.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - TrumpCard - 09-27-2014

Best part about the 4th down stop: UW doesn't get to punt.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - FarmBoy - 09-27-2014

I'm usually a big fan of Hogan but he's playing really poorly.  Even receptions are missed opportunities as the receivers aren't able to pick up extra yards .

And our RBS need to be trained to block high anytime there's an olive man in the area.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - stupac2 - 09-27-2014

Oh my god. This is the USC game all over again. How are we playing this far below our talent level?

Also, Peat getting up slow. Sure hope that's not serious...

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - needle - 09-27-2014

Maddening.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - thunder_chik - 09-27-2014

Peat is gimping over to the sideline...we missed the FG by a mile.  Doesn't look good for us right now.

Re: Stanford - UW game thread - OutsiderFan - 09-27-2014

This is getting hard to watch.  There are foundational problems with the offense.  And Williamson isn't even above 50% FGs this year.

Yep, USC all over again.

Also, does Shaw consider benching Williamson? He's having a terrible fourth year as a starter.
