This reminds me of Hogan's bizarrely bad Oregon State game last year.

Hogan overthrows a really wide open receiver on 3rd and 6. He might or might have stared down that receiver--hard to tell if the initial read was also on that side of the field.

Hogan doesn't look terrible today, but he's certainly been no better than mediocre.

Like the score, borderline disgusted by the play calling.Â
We really can't run it in from the four? Is Shaw intentionally trying to screw with Hogan's head?

Army doesn't have the athletes to keep up with Stanford, but this team doesn't look like a well oiled machine. Montgomery, Caujste, Hooper, Vaughters all look like men among boys though. I hope those guys continue to make great individual plays. They are fun to watch.

First offensive drive was great! Most everything since.... *yawn*

Would it be too much to ask for the good ole fashioned Stanford power run game to be used in the Red Zone? I wonder if the coaching staff lacks confidence in the running backs.

No. He's trying to give the team some real-game practice with pass plays in the red zone. Duh.

Good news: We're ahead. Not so good news: Lackluster play.

Certainly disturbing that the team is only getting 3.6 YPC.
4 if you filter out sacks.
1 sack in ~21 dropbacks isn't bad, but that 2nd down play in the penultimate drive where Hogan got hit looked like a blown protection scheme.
Offensive line continues to be a problem, in other words.
Hogan's 6.3 YPA is awful, though mostly on a combination of his poor decision making and accuracy.

The announcers nailed it: this was a sleepy half for the Stanford offense. I'd add that it's also somewhat discombobulated.
Announcers also posited a good point: prior to Hooper's drop of a wide-open reception, Hogan was perfect in attempts. Afterwards? Oddly out of rhythm.

PAC 12 announcers praise our defense, criticized our offense for not being engaged, not having an identity.
They also pointed out the half-full stands.

The red zone plan is mystifying. It looks to me like the offense is mentally overloaded and trying to do way too much with way too many people.Â
Let one RB have a whole series. Rotate between two guys on every play.Â
I don't mind going four wide inside the 5, but why not line up in a pro set and run a play action run fake and throw to a TE or FB, if you want to pass. The defense doesn't have to worry about a run when the offense goes empty. Just like it doesn't have to worry about a pass in the jumbo set.
Why is there such a reticence to be unpredictable?

Given what happened in last weeks game, I would like to practice the run in the red zone.Â

Unless it's a QB keeper. Hogan is a pretty good runner.

Three nice runs on this drive. But we expect to do well with power against Army. I guess we've decided to finally break this game open...

Cajuste saves our bacon with the third? touchdown reception of the game...Hogan's sack notwithstanding.
