I have no doubt that will happen on the very same day that pigs fly, U>SC has a Nobel Prize winner and...
Ummm... USC has four Nobel laureates, including one last year.

And their Nobel in Chemistry last year was shared with two others, including Michael Levitt of . . . you get one guess:Â

So that one's a wash.Â
And, IIRC, Levitt was introduced with his family at halftime of a game last year and clearly appeared to be a football fan!Â

I'm sure some donor will pay that pittance. It worked, so he'll do it again.
As for Nobel Prizes, I was surprised to recently learn that there's a school affiliated with USC.

Another Pat Haden take. (I know some hate this source, so don't click. Others may find it interesting. I did.)

Everyone's focussing on the Pat Haden side of this, while the image I can't get out of my mind is of Sarkisian whining [essentially]:Â "Yeah, well, I'm going to get my daddy down here, and then you'll be sorry!"
To be honest, I can't even picture Lame Kitten having done that...
Re: The weird Pat Haden appearance -
yvonne - 09-08-2014
It wouldn't be a pittance if Haden had to pay it, but I doubt that's the case.
Re: The weird Pat Haden appearance -

USA Today reports that Haden's action has been declared "inappropriate" by Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott and a $25,000 fine has been levied against Haden (wonder who pays for that?).

Condoleezza Rice and Barry Alvarez also confronted referees on the field during the game yesterday, so why is it such a big deal Haden did? First and foremost he is USC's AD and must defend them. CFP committee comes second.
WTF? Wouldn't that have also been part of the headlines?

Barry Alvarez definitely did, I've seen pictures of it. I'd be surprised if Condi did, is she even on the sidelines?

I rarely read comments to internet articles for exactly that reason. Most are either dumber than I am or intentionally malicious.

Haden was fined, but I would have preferred a response to USC from Larry Scott and the Pac 12 office along these lines.

Comments? Comments?
What about actual reporters [or whatever this guy is]? Presumably, he gets paid to write his stuff.

Don't bother with the beginning, just read the last two paragraphs, when the discussion of Ty W.illing.ham begins. The best part, though, is the "Correction" line at the very end. I wonder what the article said BEFORE it was "corrected"... ???

Thanks...I think. I confess that, before posting, I had NOT read the comments, because, like ferrari, I generally don't. Now that I have, I'm even more confused.Â
He appears to have changed the names, but not the erroneous "facts." Or, maybe it was just the Dallas News auto-correct software... Yeah, that must have been it! ;D

Pat Haden â@ADHadenUSC
I accept the @pac12 reprimand. I plan to pay the fine personally. To honor my 5-yr-old grandson who has autism, I have a special request...
...I will request the @pac12 forward the fine to Children's Hospital Los Angeles for autism research.

https://twitter.com/ADHadenUSC/status/509103893251231744
Is there any precedent for a request like this? What does this have to do with an athletic director's emotional outburst? Unless he also has autistic spectrum traits causing the outburst?
Re: The weird Pat Haden appearance -
BostonCard - 09-08-2014
My guess is that this is all about the publicity. Haden gets to look like a "good guy" for requesting his fine go to charity, and since Children's Hospital Los Angeles is part of USC, the money goes back to the campus. You know what, Haden, if you feel the Autism research is so important, feel free to donate as much of your money as you think appropriate to it. But don't insult us by requesting that the money you pay as a fine for being a nitwit go to a charity you chose.
That being said, hopefully the Pac-12 does donate all the money collected from fines to charities. I believe the NFL does.

Amazing arrogance. Just amazing. Say you're sorry, fool, and move on. If I ever get a traffic ticket I guess I should request my fine be given to the charity of my choice. What the F does his grandson have to do with this? How to embarrass yourself and then humiliate yourself. I used to have a lot of respect for that man but never again.
Re: The weird Pat Haden appearance -

Crass vs Class: Tweeting the donation request for all the world to see = super crass. Making such a request privately = slightly less crass. Just a simple "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done it, I'm paying the fine out of my own pocket" and move on = class.
Is he thinking now it's about him and his autistic grandson? Are we to feel sorry for them? Just a classless way to deflect criticism? Can't believe he's turning it in to a fundraiser for autism...
